๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฎ๐ by Divaagar explores the banana leaf as a functional and symbolic material in Southeast Asian food preparation, reflecting cultural identity and heritage. Contrasting with Victorian dining norms, the artwork showcases the simple banana leaf, in its contemporary adaptations, and in speculative forms. Through archival and fictional elements, ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฎ๐ frames the multiple significance of this material in the grandiosity and esteem of its display.
Divaagar is a visual artist who creates installations, performances, and digital media. His practice examines narratives and proposes new models by rethinking how bodies, identities and environments interact.

Art interrogates Natureโs Politics๐ฟNorโs Nusantara Green Room visit at 136 Goethe. It was an honour to be invited by its three resident artists KHAIRULLAH RAHIM, RUSYDAN NORR & DIVA AGAR at Goethe-Institut whose practices echo our PODCAST exploring relations between environment, culture, identity in maritime Southeast Asia.
In these visual-led lab experiments we examine nature: from its colonial binary frameworks, invisible systems, to reclaiming queer biophilia - intersecting at the very terrain where natureโs hidden hierarchies unravel.
In this space, Khairullahโs interrogates taxonomies of nature through botanical drawings and pigeon sculptures embellished with rhinestones and synthetic polymers. Exposing how nature classifications enforce patriarchal hierarchies while centering queer survival tactics through camouflage and reflection.
Rusydannโs one of many projects merges memory with chlorophyll photograms to materialise culture loss. Using chlorophyll printing, his parentsโ wedding photos are โburnedโ into daun sireh (betel leaves)- once central to Malay traditions as way to reflect disappearing relations.
Diva reimagines a terrarium showing support systems in nature. Using 3D printing and bold, vivid colours, he reconstructs these natural hidden structures, making the invisible visible and reframing what usually goes unseen.
What do you think about these visual strategies for contemporary living? Beautification as Deflection? Camouflage as Resistance? Photograms as Memory Repair?

Since April 2023, Divaagarโs (@diva.agar ) ๐๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ง๐ฐ๐ธ๐ญ ๐๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ฆ has been on view at Block 1 Everton Park as part of The Everyday Museumโs public art commissioning series, ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต/๐ณ๐ข๐ช๐ต๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ซ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐จ๐ข๐ณ. This artwork playfully proposes a civilised living environment for the junglefowl that roam around the neighbourhood and suggests the possibility of harmonious living with our nonhuman counterparts. ๐๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ง๐ฐ๐ธ๐ญ ๐๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ฆ examines how city inhabitants engage with public spaces and highlights the urban ecosystems that exist amidst and are affected by constant urban development.
Joined by filmmaker Jun Chong (@junchongjf ), the director of ใๆฐๆฐใ๐๐ฆ๐ธ ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต, and avian specialist and researcher Melody Wu, this programme invites contemplation on the nuanced dynamics between humans and nature as well as art, science and habitat.
The evening includes a screening of ใๆฐๆฐใ๐๐ฆ๐ธ ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต, a narrative short film by Chong that spotlights the unlikely relationship between a resident and the wild chickens found at her estate in Sin Ming.

Has your pet cat become lazy, sluggish and docile? Behold, the Instinct Device.
The Instinct Device #1 is a cat toy prototype that mimics the movement of birds through 2 tendrils. The shorter one replicates the motion of wings, and the taller one imitates the undulation of tail feathers in flight. Made with genuine parakeet feathers, Instinct Device #1 is sure to unleash the predator in your precious feline angels.

Model: Kitchen adapts the format of the kitchen showroom and digital renders in imagining the ideal kitchen, beyond design. Using the hollows of appliances, Model: Kitchen unpacks the various intimacies of food preparation, familial dynamics and care in the home, through digital scenes of the many daily motions of household care practiced in the kitchen.
