For this piece I shot each of the band member individually and then aimed / focused a projector at them to display various abstract patterns which I created using AI image generators.
A blue gelled strobe acts as a backlight. I only used photoshop to combine the portraits.

John Cameron Mitchell’s brilliant movie Shortbus came out when I first moved to New York in 2006. At the time, I was a recent art school grad, just moved to Harlem from nowhere Ohio and a super green graphic designer. I was excited, terrified, and hungry to sink my teeth into the NY art scene. And, like many of my kind, I felt completely alone.
Shortbus was my first exposure to the incredible work of Justin Bond, a cabaret singer in the film, blurring the lines of what I knew gender and sexuality to be. It was my first exposure to what real art could be.. pushing norms and demanding a new vocabulary for a generation to follow.
Years would go by.. jobs.. travel.. lovers.. successes.. failures.. and I finally had the honor of Art Directing a shoot featuring @mxviv in collaboration with @gloriousbroads They were everything I had hoped to meet and more.. an artist in the purest sense of the word.
