We are so excited to announce that we’re bringing together three wonderful acts for an evening of atmospheric, archival and experimental sound. Joy Moughanni, Manchild and Ecem Ince @dissenter.space / May 30th 7pm / £10 adv Joy Moughanni is a Beirut-based producer, engineer, and songwriter, as well as a partner at Tunefork Studios. As a sought-after production collaborator in Beirut’s alternative scene, producing several albums with regional and international artists. Joy’s work explores sound in relational contexts and archives, drawing from his architectural studies and spatial sonic installations. Recently, he has been sonically exploring themes of personal and political manipulation through his debut solo album “A Separation From Habit” Voted #48 on The Quietus 2025 Album of the year. Manchild are a Leeds-based jazz/electronica trio who combine ethereal sax melodies with driving drum and synth grooves. Their newest ep ‘Manchild II’ brings together traces of the landscape of shopping centres and warped rhythms. They will be joining us at the end of their uk tour. Ecem Ince is an artist and researcher from Istanbul, currently based in Dundee, exploring the intersection of new media art and interaction design. Ecem’s practice-based research reimagines forms of material and embodied responses to visual-centric immersive experiences by foregrounding the corporeal dimensions of virtual environments. They experiment with experiential interactive systems, objects, sensors, noises and field recordings that expand the language of digital interaction beyond disembodied visuality, toward more material experiences. Tickets are linked in our bio- they are priced so we can pay our performers but if you cannot otherwise come do send us a message and we can work something out. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Poster by the best @__mllplr

A special one this - in such a beautiful venue as the sun sets in the peak of summer. Field Commander Ali, Thoughtless Gift, Jordan Ireland, Classifieds @ Dissenter Space / 20th July / £12 adv / link in bio. Field Commander Ali saunters through Edinburgh with an intimate collection of songs built from layered vocals and the quiet sounds of the room itself. A delicate balance of closeness and distance in both sound and storytelling. The First From The Field Commander was one of my most listened to records of last year. Listening to Ali’s layered vocals and open strings coupled with the industrial and coastal views from Dissenter Space is something I’m romanticising. Thoughless Gift will be playing their first show. My best friend in life and in music. A Slipping OG hailing fromh just south of the Ardeer Peninsula, now nestling in London. TG’s guitar work leans into repetition whilst rejecting any rigidness, making patterns that soften and slip. I like to think of a Thoughless Gift track more of a journal entry than a song. The two entries so far can be found scattered across the web. Jordan Ireland’s piano pieces are simple on the surface. Mostly short, unadorned improvisations, but they carry warmth and patience, the kind that slowly draws you in rather than announcing itself. There’s something in his playing that feels tied to that wider Australian experimental scene: open, pastoral, no hurry, like it’s moving at its own pace. The sweet spot. Over the past year, Nicky’s been recording what she’s been working on. Beautiful sketches, studies, pieces still finding their shape. Recently I received a long-form guitar track that’s a constant in my headphones. There’s a sense of process, of ideas stretching out and testing their limits rather than settling too quickly. Really looking forward to hearing Classifieds live. Would love to have a lot of the folk and experimental heads in Edinburgh turn up for this one.

~ An evening of experimental music and sound performance by Glasgow-based artists Masa Nazzal and Ailie Ormston. Support by local duo Ellen ER ~ EHFM residents Interim and Slipping will be going b2b at the start of the evening to prepare you for what’s to come. Masa Nazzal is doing her Edinburgh debut after a long awaited return to Scotland! She is an abolitionist researcher and organizer whose work is based around archiving and recording accounts of border violence along the EU’s Balkan borders against people in transit. Masa uses creative mediums, such as writing, sound, and embroidery to explore the affective ways state violence and borders rupture and redefine how people inhabit the world. Her work focuses on the transformative power of listening as a bridge towards solidarity, action, and change. She released her debut tape with Glasgow’s DIY label GLARC last year. Ailie Ormston is a Glasgow-based composer and musician from Scotland making experimental electronic music and chamber music. Their newest album, Impressions on and of guitar, is inspired by unusual music from unusual places, created after a tour across the North West Highlands and Islands of Scotland. They’ve used various objects including a ring pull, felt pads for the feet of furniture and a miniature back roller to make the unique guitar sounds which feature in their performance. Ellen ER is an Edinburgh-based duo comprised by Mariangela Alejandro Cortez and Oscar Davis. Screaming, guitars, drum machines, and gloves filled with couscous have all been used to create an array of noisy sounds. Who knows what’s next? Tickets link in the bio - they are priced so we can pay the artists, but if you cannot otherwise come, message us and we can work something out :-) Poster by the amazing @alicedisken_

Dissenter 3.0 Dissenter has been in its third iteration at Ocean Point, Leith for the last few months. The expansive office floor plate sees the scattered curtains form an abstracted range of spaces to gather and exhibit. Dissenter has taken on its own identity and is available for use for a range of artistic endeavours. The design remains adaptable and flexible, providing an inherently ephemeral curatorial challenge.
