Not my average Saturday night… Had the best time making all sorts of noises and occasionally conducting masterpieces by Ligeti and Boulez. Thank you @royal_northern_sinfonia and friends for making this slightly mad journey so fun! 📸 @tynesightphoto @theglasshouseicm

⚠️ Unlikely post alert - my first ever football match at a stadium (yes I know I’m from Portugal how is it possible 🤷🏻‍♂️). What a match and what a stadium. Thank you @nufc for being the best hosts imaginable for mine and @vikingurolafsson first visit to St James’ Park. This really is a special place and it was such a memorable evening. Now to @theglasshouseicm for my first concert of 2025 with my dearest @royal_northern_sinfonia and Vikingur. Can’t wait 🤍

The first time doing anything is always a moment to remember, but not knowing The Messiah at all before (not sure how I managed that) and discovering it this year from scratch was mind-blowing. And working it all out in the last few days and performing it with my dear @royal_northern_sinfonia + chorus and this total dream quartet of soloists, was kind of overwhelming. I felt so lucky to be having a first go at this masterpiece in this company. Here’s a very blurry audience snippet of the final amen, surely the most epic ending of any piece - and most pregnant pause - ever? Happy to receive suggestions otherwise. Merry Christmas! 🎄 @forsythe_amanda @reginald_mobley_countertenor @garycrackling @johnchest @theglasshouseicm

Really happy to be back in the @barbicancentre , which was essentially my second home whilst studying at @guildhallschool , to conduct the wonderful @bbcsymphonyorchestra with dear @bertrandchamayouofficial To be presented with the Critics’ Circle Award at the concert made the whole thing feel even more surreal (and just a tiny bit 🫣) - thank you to everyone who came and to the BBCSO for a special few days. The broadcast is now available on BBC Sounds - here’s a clip with one of the most exhilarating ends to anything ever 🌊

Orquestra XXI is always a special time. But as we remembered our dear Pedro Freire it highlighted just how much of a big family it is, and how deeply this connection runs between so many of us. There’s a reason why we call it “orquestra do coração” 🤍 @orquestraxxi 📸 @enricvivesrubio

We did it! 💪 So full of admiration for the incredible Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique who just found new reserves of energy each night as we climbed this Beethoven mountain together ❤️ And to have the Monteverdi Choir and such great soloists with us to start and end the journey was truly special. Now on to Paris - concerts from tonight through to Wednesday at @philharmoniedeparis
