For their final presentation, Dimitris @dimuntsk and Lou Perret discussed roots and muiakkon — a wartime technique of growing sweet potatoes underground, hidden and protected in the soil. Through interviews with farmers and cultural actors across Yaeyama, they uncovered a rich diversity of potatoes, sweet potatoes, and other root crops — each carrying stories of survival, exchange, and care. More than food, these roots form a living ecosystem and a shared heritage that sustained communities through crisis. An underground crop. A communal network. A legacy growing forward. MUR23 | Insular legacies: stories of water boundaries Lou Perret and Dimitris Theodoropoulos’s (@dimuntsk ) project traces Ishigaki’s long history of movement and exchange: its relationship with Taiwan; population mobility before, during, and after the war; cultivation techniques introduced by Taiwanese communities; survival strategies during periods of food shortage; the malaria that devastated the region; and the arrival of people from Okinawa who came to cultivate the land in the postwar years. It also considers the Ryōfumaru, the boat that connected Ishigaki to mainland Japan, and the presence of the Americans, who introduced canned food after the war and contributed to the eradication of malaria. Through stories, practices, objects, and materials, they propose an open-ended installation that captures the richness of the island across multiple formats—video, visual narratives, and notebooks. «Διάλογοι πάνω στα κατεπείγοντα της Αμανής - Οι φιλοξενούμενοι καλλιτέχνες/ιδες του CARR3 συνομιλούν με Χιώτες/ισσες καλλιτέχνες/ιδες» Ομήρειο Πνευματικό Κέντρο Δήμου Χίου στις 9-24 Ιανουαρίου 2026. Η έκθεση «Διάλογοι πάνω στα κατεπείγοντα της Αμανής» αποτελεί μια συνομιλία ανάμεσα σε ντόπιους καλλιτέχνες/ιδες και τους φιλοξενούμενους/ες καλλιτέχνες/ιδες του CARR3 με έργα πάνω στη σχέση ανθρώπινου και μη ανθρώπινου κόσμου, υπό την εξορυκτική απειλή του αντιμονίου και σε σχέση με την πυρκαγιά που έπληξε πρόσφατα την περιοχή. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο επιδιώκεται η λειτουργία ενός δυναμικού χώρου καλλιτεχνικής, οικολογικής και κοινωνικής συνάντησης. Στόχος είναι η από κοινού διερεύνηση της περιοχής της Αμανής, ενός τόπου σύνθετης βιοποικιλότητας, ιστορικής εγκατάλειψης και πρόσφατης περιβαλλοντικής καταστροφής λόγω των πυρκαγιών του Αυγούστου 2025 και του εξορυκτικού κινδύνου. Παράλληλα, η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα, ξεναγήσεις με σχολεία, συζήτηση στρογγυλής τραπέζης σε συνεργασία με τον κοινωνικό χώρο Αντίβαρο, προβολές σε συνεργασία με την Κινηματογρα-φική Λέσχη Χίου, πεζοπορία σε συνεργασία με το Chios Hiking.
