Hey there! 👋 I'm Suzanne, the heart, soul and keyboard behind The Digital Optimist. Yes folks, the brand is undergoing some shifts. I *was* using the Image Optimist but the reality is that I like to optimize so much more than images, and almost all of what I do is digital. The story is a bit longer than that, so if you’re interested you can read about it on my blog.
For now, I’m here to introduce myself as your entrepreneurial, adventurous, creative, seo, marketing, techy friend. I may add a sprinkle of photography, branding or marketing when we polish up your website and online presence but nothing too crazy. But don’t worry, if you want crazy, I’ve got people for that.
I’m expanding from photography into the world of overall digital optimization. These days we all need more than photos. As someone who's been through the ups and downs of building multiple businesses, I know how important it is to feel seen and heard. That’s why I’m here, to help passionate entrepreneurs not just show up but show off online. Just kidding, I thought that sounded snazzy, we’re not specifically trying to show off. We are, however, aiming to get your business noticed and found by your ideal future clients. Whether you’re an established business owner or just starting out, we’ll make your brand and website sparkle ✨ and get you noticed where it matters.
So, where are you at in your business? What’s your story? I’d love to hear it! 💬

When’s the last time you updated your website?
Be honest… 👀
If your site still looks the same as it did 3 years ago, you could be losing clients before they even contact you.
Your website should feel fresh, elevated, and actually convert visitors into customers.
Lucky for you… that’s my thing.

Today marks the start of an exciting development in my business. Earlier this year I made a decision to extend my business into the States. There is a huge market down there and American clients don’t pay Canadian taxes, not to mention their dollar goes further. I got my first American client, a friend, in February and we optimized his website and ran Google Ads that were a resounding success (see my testimonials highlight).
Today, I got my first American client who is not someone I have met in person, but whom I met through my new online community. I believe this is the start of something amazing and I can’t wait to see where this goes!
SEO is a slow burn. The long game, if you will. And so is building an SEO business. But once the fire gets burning it stays hot for a long time, and things are definitely heading in the right direction.

AI has distinctive patterns. Do you recognize those patterns in AI? I sure do! If you’re someone who notices AI everywhere, what do you then do with the information being presented?
A recent SEO sprint client uses the Square Platform for his in store POS and website. It has some major pros and cons.
Pros - Inventory and GA4 tracking
Cons - Design and SEO
Let me know if you use Square and what you like or dislike about it!

I wrote a blog post about how to make your business more likely to get displayed in AI search results. Here’s the link!

If only I could hide behind bushes in every shoot I’m in!!
But seriously, using aligned keywords makes the difference between getting found organically, and not. Need help? You know where to find me.

Almost every year I compile some of my favourite photos from the year and make a calendar. If you purchased my 2026 calendar you will know that the template I used this year didn’t contain a spot for writing a description.
I decided to let people know at the beginning of each month, the story behind the photo. This one is from Ometepe, Nicaragua, sunset from the Totoco Eco Resort. Some friends from the Vancity Movement retreat and I had just participated in a yoga class with sound bath and meditation. If you look closely you can see Melissa lying on the grass. We had all just practiced our headstands on the lawn.
Ometepe is a magical island and I would go back in a heartbeat. Totoco is on the volcano in the last slide. I rented an ATV to get around the island, but a scooter would work too if you were traveling with just a backpack.
Let me know if you’ve been to Ometepe!
In a shocking turn of events, this post is not about SEO or websites. Welcome to Liverpool, NS, the place I am delighted to call home!
Last week I took myself on a photowalk with the long lens and enjoyed the heck out of reflections of fishing boats in the harbour.
I fell behind on work this week… but it was worth it!
I had time slotted for getting work done but instead Yellowknife had a city wide power outage! This is apparently common, and is often caused by ravens sitting on the power lines (or so a local told me, maybe she was messing with me).
Yellowknife exceeded my expectations, it has 20,000 people but feels larger. They have busses and a large shoppers. In addition to the usual YK stuff, there was a music festival happening, they were building an ice castle for a March festival and they have a bowling alley!
I’d love to spend more time up north. Any businesses or communities need an SEO or website workshop up there? 👀
The best part was returning to -5 temps at home and feeling warm 😅
JK. Obviously it was the auroras. We were lucky it cleared up 1.5 out of 4 nights there. And in case you’re wondering, the first image is a creative edit, there is no lake there but I really wanted a reflection shot. 🤗
Have you been to Yellowknife?!!
