You win some you lose some. Awhile back we did a baseline valving and spring setup on @firstdefense_usa Ranger but we never managed to meet up and fine tune it. The baseline setup was good enough to win in class at KOH, and last week we finally managed to meet up in Barstow to fine tune things. Well, swing and a miss!! I wasn’t happy with what the truck was doing and where the bypass tube adjusters were headed so the day ended short. Don’t get me wrong, he was still making passes down main around 65-70mph, but it has a lot of room for improvement still. I took a bit of a different approach to this setup since Mark often hits big jumps and it didn’t quite work in my favor. So here we go again, round two! Bypasses revalved and we’ll be back out there fine tuning it again soon.
All that to say, the constant pursuit of the “perfect” shock setup is never ending. There is always something else to change or tweak or upgrade and it’s incredible what these trucks are capable of with even a half decently setup suspension. Onto the next! 🚀
#WM713 out in Barstow last November getting the suspension sorted with @dialed_shock_prep . The hubs and third member are on the way, and the puzzle pieces are finally starting to land. This old girl is getting real close to rolling again, and I’m beyond ready to see what these new upgrades do when we put her back in the dirt. #weaselmotorsports #class7open #racedezert #desertmedia
Fox 3.2” Raptor Rear owners! If your 3.2” rears have suddenly lost all damping capabilities, it’s likely the piston wear band has disintegrated and the piston is no longer working correctly. If yours have NOT lost all damping, it will be much cheaper to replace the wear band before it fails vs afterwards. Once it does let go, it send tiny bits and pieces throughout the shock that get stuck in all kinds of weird spots. I’ve been told Fox is warranting this so it could be worthwhile to reach out to them, otherwise we are happy to repair them as well!
⚡️SWIPE FOR SICKY GNAR 🤘⚡️
Stoked to dive back into this thing soon! Parts should start landing by the end of the week so we can get to burning in the new @ruffstuffspecialties housing. The third member is getting built up, and before long we’ll have axles getting cut to length. Can’t wait to start sharing all the new goodies.
Motor parts are also showing up with the legendary @moruzzi_race_motors , so we’ll be watching the new heart of the truck come together soon. Seriously appreciate all of you who keep supporting this wild adventure.
And I’m pumped to see where this year goes with my rad co-dawg @rileyracing04 — we’re getting close to testing again with @dialed_shock_prep .
Enjoy these shots @flashfigure grabbed at last year’s KOH. Super bummed to miss it with the truck this time, but it’ll be worth it when she’s back and ready to rip. Hope everyone has a kick-ass week!!

For all the DIY’ers out there, when mounting your limit straps it also helps to check clearance at full bump. Actually when you’re building anything suspension related you should check clearances on everything at full bump and droop, and steering angled as well. Anyways, luckily we cycle everything we work on and ensure things will actually achieve full bump and droop without major issues.
I was blessed with the opportunity to restore these OG Mike Smith/Herbst shocks for @adamhouseholder for one of the old Herbst Prerunners, the “Triplets”. These were significantly more work than expected and took way way too long to get together but the end result was worth it. I’ll try to get some installed pictures once the coils and shocks are all together and back on the truck. These things are pretty wild though, solid brass pistons, one piece seal head/wiper cap with 4 wear guide bands per shaft and 4 wiper seals, coil carriers have no nitrogen port, etc. Very very blessed to have the opportunity to work on these (what i would consider) historic shocks.
