𝚒𝚖𝚙𝚎𝚛𝚏𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚡 is, as described in its introduction, “a reference document, a non-linear, imperfect guide to a more expansive understanding of graphic design. By looking back at the discipline‘s discriminatory past, and directly at its discriminatory present, this collection of voices, ideas and projects looks forward to more diverse and inclusive futures.”
The project appears in the 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘌𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 section, introduced as “discussing the role of identity, culture, and language in how graphic design is shaped—and in turn, shapes us.” This project was undertaken to examine the discrimination between Latin and ‘non-Latin’ in font software, questioning the biases embedded in typographic design and advocating for more inclusive tools and practices.
