Becoming Her, Mastering Her
Dedicated to my namesake, my maternal grandmother, Sokhna Ndoumbe Ndiaye, who left this world too soon when Astou, my mother, was only six months old.
I often wonder what life would have been like to experience your embrace, witness your smile, and learn from the wisdom you carried.
You came to mind throughout my studies and academic journey, whether I was presenting investment cases to reduce maternal mortality in Senegal, learning about the role doulas play in maternal and infant health outcomes, or examining how systems of inequity continue to leave Black women behind.
My public health origin story begins with you. Your story continues to ground me in my commitment to be a voice for the voiceless and an advocate for all of humanity.
Mame Ndoumbe, although I never knew you in this world, I carry your spirit in all that I do. I pray, inshallah, that we will one day reunite in the best of places. Until then, I will continue striving to become a woman of grace, compassion, and love.

‼️THE LAST COUPLE OF SLIDES ARE A PROOF OF GROWTH AND GRACE‼️… 9 unbelievable years! I remember that “YES moment, thinking at the back of my head, “what have I gotten myself into?” One of the scariest moments of my life. This past “almost-a-decade” is a proof of God’s faithfulness and Grace upon me as a Man, a father, and most especially; husband to Oluwatomisin Abolade Mercy Ayaba (Queen) Olopade!
You are a proof that I’m not only loved by you, but Deeply loved by God! Every time the enemy tries to make me question God’s love for me, then i SEE you by my side at all times, being there for me, spiritually, and emotionally. And supporting every decision i make as the leader of our Home… always putting me at the fore front, to cheer me on! I’d never be able to express my love for you with words! I will always Choose you! I want to grow old with you, wake up next to you everyday! I thank God for the day I first set my eyes on you because, that day nothing in my life remained the same ever again! You’ve been at the center of every good thing, great moments and pivots that I’ve experienced in my life.. you truly are a proof of Gods unfathomable grace on my life… the Mercy of God indeed flows through you to me..I love you more than I’m able to type… forever and always my ♥️
