✨ I grew up in a Missionary Baptist church in Kansas City, MO. with a Virgo ♍️ Mama who came from Alabama folk and had the power to lay everybody out in the congregation and have them catching the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues with the power of her worship in the form of song… her voice was POWERFUL and she taught me the power of words! If you went to Mt. Vernon in the 80s and 90’s you experienced her magic!
✨She taught me how words held all power and created blessings or curses and my brothers and I weren’t allowed to say certain words at all! We got threatened with having our mouths washed out with soap 🧼 many times 🤣🤣 This understanding is also why I left the mainstream music industry over 20 years ago… but that’s for another day)
✨ I received lots of gifts from My mama and our ancestral lineage of African (and South Indian) medicine people and spiritualists… the power of voice, the gift of music, divination, prophetic dreams, how to worship deeply, how to Mother and love, how to crack a good joke and not take myself too seriously and how to work with plants! 🌱 🪴
✨Mama always had a garden and a house filled with plants… she created concoctions when we were little from Hot Toddy to healing balms (and always joked about putting a root on somebody 🤣) and we know there’s always truth in jokes!
✨Everything I create in my herbal wellness business @devitribewellness is imbibed with prayer… incantations… blessings… mantras… occasionally a full on speaking in tongues accompanies the brew (depending on what’s being made) and THIS is the real power that makes the already potent herbal, plant kingdom allies, become even MORE powerful!
