This weekend, @onelexingtonky acknowledging a historical milestone, as Lexington is set to reach 100 consecutive days without a homicide. After a gradual uptick in gun violence starting in 2010 and record-breaking increases through the pandemic, Lexington is now seeing its 5th straight year of downward trends when it comes to gun violence overall, especially among youth and young adults. I looked back through the archives as far as our city’s records go, and I could not find the last time our city had these many consecutive days without a homicide. This isn’t something we are ā€œcelebratingā€ but something we are amplifying as a sign of hope and a reminder of vigilance. While highlighting progress in this line of work is difficult because so many have already lost their lives, it’s important to document the work being done every day to address this issue. Lexington’s last homicide was on February 5th of this year. What is working? Community partnerships City government & School system collaboration Direct contact & engagement by ā€œcredible messengersā€ with those involved in the cycle of violence Increased community-policing practices by LPD Investments in crime-solving technology for LPD Increased access to mental health, including the LFD’s new paramedicine programming. Investments in skills training & certification for underserved young adults Supporting survivors & those affected by gun violence Expungement clinics and the mobile food market Strong alternative & restorative sentencing opportunities for juveniles Intentional focus on domestic violence prevention, intervention, and awareness Increasing affordable housing units

Yesterday morning, @onelexingtonky gave away $60,000 through our Be the Change Scholarship Program, to underrepresented @fcpsky seniors who will be entering into career paths that systemically address the root causes of or provide immediate response to gun violence. Today I couldn’t help but think about the struggle and fight that my parents endure to make a better life for me and my brother, while also doing their part to make the community a better place. Part of that work was watching my parents go out and be the change they wanted to see. Systems work so much better when they reflect the communities that they serve and this scholarship opportunity incentivizes those young people who are committed to being that representation. BEING the change. #AllHeartsOnDeck #ItTakesAVillage #94DaysNoHomicides Thank you, @mayorlindagorton , Lexington City Council, Galls, Central Bank of Lexington, and @bgcfky for your support and partnership in ensuring that our #BeTheChange scholarship program continues. Tonight at 12 am, a Devine Carama & @rekshiphop collaboration hits streaming services for the first time! The boom bap banger, ā€œā€™95 Flow Crazyā€ pays homage to one of the greatest years in the half century of hip hop, highlighting the golden era of layered lyricism and boom bap beat production. The song previously available on BAND CAMP ONLY, is now available on ALL streaming platforms including Apple Music & Spotify! Check out more info on the previous release below: Emmy Award-winning hip-hop artist and community activist Devine Carama releases his 17th solo album, Legacy Minded Men, on January 19th, 2026, which is MLK Day and the National Day of Service. Aesthetic, a Brooklyn-based hip-hop producer, crafted a soundscape for this project that continues where the Amadeus360-produced ā€œGuardians of the Boom Bapā€ album left off—hard drums, strategically placed chops and vocal samples, and edgy lyricism. The album features Boston-native, REKS, Kentucky’s own, Tony Wavy, Corey Dunn, Terry Dumphord, and more. What makes this album release unique is Devine finding the perfect intersection of artistry and activism. This album will only be available on the entrepreneur-friendly platform, Bandcamp, with 100% of the proceeds going back to our youth nonprofit, Believing In Forever Inc. Here’s the kicker: To get a physical copy of the new project in CD form, fans must perform some form of community service, post proof of their service on social media using the hashtag #LeavingBehindALegacy, and encourage others to serve.

Today marks 75 days since Lexington’s last homicide. As the weather warms up in the coming weeks, let’s come together as a community to push it to 100 days! If this post was about a shooting that happened or someone getting killed, hundreds of people would have reacted! Before we can fight evil, we have to rid ourselves of the normalcy, dependency, and entertainment value of evil! There isn’t a ā€œmagic buttonā€ when it comes to this work. There’s no ONE solution. None of us are perfect or can solve this issue individually… But UNITED, we can make a difference. Everybody got a part to play and all the parts look different. Stay connected, respect others’ purview or work, and let’s get to it! @onelexingtonky
