Yesterday, my team and I were at the site of the unfortunate petrol tanker explosion in Matogbun-Lambe axis of Ifo LGA. We went to commiserate with the victims and residents, assess the extent of the damage and also see how we could come to alleviate the immediate suffering of the victims.
Commercial roadside shops within the area were not spared in the crazy fire that started when the tanker fell. Residents and onlookers present when the situation happened agreed that the bad road and the driver's negligence led to the fall of the tanker.
Thankfully, no lives were lost as people were alerted just in time to be hurt. Glory to God.
Now we need to work hard to see how palliative measures can be started on the roads so an unfortunate incident like this doesn't happen again. Mention must be made that as at the time we visited, the deputy governor of Ogun State, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele; the incumbent House of Assembly Honorable, Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji; the chairman of Ifo Local Government, Kikelomo Delano, and other notable dignitaries had already visited the scene. That's commendable.

Repost @aainitiatives : We're working with a number of schools in the Araromi Oke-Odo community to sponsor JAMB forms for indigent students.
There's a pattern wherein students from low-income communities don't sit for their final/university-qualifying exams because of several reasons, chief of which is usually lack of funds. They then spend years at home without furthering their education. In this time, they loiter the streets and most get lured by negative influences.
Perhaps, we can break that chain by helping students get the opportunity to write JAMB and secure admission into a public university of their picking.
We'll be sharing more details of this initiative soon.

It's increasingly worrisome the number of out-of-school children in our society today, especially in low-income communities. Parents who earn little can barely afford to feed their families, much more, pay the school fees of their children.
Ifeoluwa (also called Dada), is a 5 year old out-of-school child whom we found roaming the streets during school time. He came around to assist/play around us as we battled a temporary car fault on the street where his family's small business shop is.
There are many other children like Ife out there on the streets whose parents can't afford to send them to school and that doesn't say much for the progressive future we should be building. Hopefully, Ife and many others like him don't stay out-of-school for so long. We need them educated and equipped to be responsible and productive people in our society.

When community leaders and residents gather at monthly CDA/CDC meetings, they gather to discuss one thing; the state of their communities and the best way forward on all matters arising.

Would any talk or policy on development even be complete if the state of children isn't considered?
Young people are the future. Quality formal education is the most important thing any society can offer them. Quality formal education joins hands with quality parenting and quality socialization to help them mature into the responsible and productive citizens our society needs.
All these help to nurture the best potential in them so they can in turn go on to develop and contribute to a better world for all of us.

Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation that’s been perpetuated for decades. It’s pervasive, but it’s not inevitable, unless we stay silent. Every one of us has a role to play. Speak up when someone crosses the line. Every time, everywhere. Let’s not allow silence to be compliance to a culture of violence.
Let’s kick off the #16Days of Activism and #OrangeTheWorld
