🟪 Our Call for Ideas has closed, and we couldn’t be more grateful 🟪 The Design Week Calgary 2026 Call for Ideas has officially wrapped, and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to submit. The volume, creativity, and thoughtfulness behind the ideas we received have been truly overwhelming, in the best possible way. Each submission reflects the depth and diversity of Calgary’s design community, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who shared their work, perspectives, and ambitions with us. Our team is now moving into a carefully curated review process, where every proposal will be considered. If you submitted an idea, you can expect to hear from us by the end of February. This is your chance to host an event, exhibition, or experience — like Work in Process — and be part of a festival that celebrates Calgary’s design community and the many ways design shows up in our city. Hosted by Two Row Architect (@tworowarchitect ), this exhibition highlighted what comes before the final renderings and polished buildings. Featuring one model, one sketch, and one object from local firms, Work in Process revealed the everyday materials, redlined ideas, and studio rituals that shape the design process — the things usually pinned up, revised, or left on the cutting room floor. The opening event brought the community together for an evening that celebrated making, process, and creative energy. Events like Work in Process reflect the range of what Design Week Calgary can be: exhibitions, gatherings, and experiences that invite people to engage with design in thoughtful and unexpected ways. The Downtown Gay History Walk was part of Design Week Calgary 2025, inviting participants to experience the city through history, place, and community. Led by Kevin Allen of the Calgary Gay History Project (@yycgayhistory ), the guided walk through the city centre highlighted key political and social moments that shaped Calgary’s 2SLGBTQ+ community. Along the way, participants passed former gathering places and watering holes that once served as important spaces of connection and belonging. Experiences like this show how Design Week creates opportunities to engage with design through place, story, and shared experience. What’s coming up next? Dinner with a Designer was part of Design Week Calgary 2025, bringing people together for an intimate evening where design and dining met. Hosted by Interior Designers of Canada (@interiordesignersofcanada ), with Syndicate Hospitality Group (@bysyndicate ) and Mera Studio Architects (@_mera_studio_ ), the evening took place at Fortuna’s Row (@fortunas.row ). The designers behind the restaurant shared the story of the space — from concept to final detail — while guests experienced it as intended, over a curated menu and thoughtful conversation. Experiences like this reflect the range of what Design Week can be: not just talks and panels, but immersive gatherings that invite people to engage with design in unexpected ways.
