I think we finally will feel a bit of warmth this weekend. Time to open up the backyards and extend your home to the outside. We loved being part of both these projects which included full backyard landscaping and furniture. Photo: @morley2space | @2spacephoto

A look back at where we started and where we are today ✨ In 2015, I (Linnea) decided that with a 1- and 3-year-old, this was the perfect time to invest in myself and start a design business! There aren’t many photos from those early days — as you can imagine, my hands were pretty full. For the next four years, I juggled family life, babies, and clients all at once. It can be a lonely journey, but having supportive friends on the same path (looking at you, Frannie ❤️ @franceslagodesign ) made those years feel manageable and kept me motivated. Clients continued to roll in (so I must have been doing something right!), but eventually I felt overwhelmed and knew I needed support. That’s when I met Martin. In 2019, we decided to join forces, and that’s when Designström was born! Back then, our “office” was the third bedroom in my house. We held presentations in our dining room, at the local Starbucks, and even in clients’ homes. Before long, we outgrew the space and knew it was time to find a studio. In September 2019, just before the pandemic, we moved into our studio. Taking on that overhead felt scary, but it was the first real step toward the bigger picture. Not long after, we hired our first designer… then another… and another. Today, we’re a team of five! We’re so grateful for where we are today — for our incredible team, our amazing clients, and the growing number of projects we’re trusted to bring to life. What started as a kitchen and bath design firm in 2015 has evolved into something far beyond what we imagined. Today, our favourite projects are the ones where we get to design and build an entire home, then furnish it and make it truly feel lived in and loved.

3rd day recap from @isaloniofficial . It’s been a busy week and our legs are very very tired! Day 3 was spent in all the furniture halls and we saw lots of warm tones. Lots of maroon / dark reds. Many vendors played with tone on tone but using different materials such as metals and fabric. We also saw more metal in furniture. Loved the pieces from @decastelli_official @kartell_official had an amazing booth with so many colourful and fun pieces. Would love to use them all. Lastly we visited more Swedish vendors @blastation and @karl_andersson_soner both very inspirational. So much fun to catch up with fellow Swedes and hear about their stories and products. Look forward to see more of them. We have so much more to share in the next couple of days.

Day 2 at @isaloniofficial and we touched a little bit on furniture but did mainly plumbing. Saw lots of textures and materials in fabrics and combos…. Majority colour is for sure warm tones right now! In plumbing we are so excited for all the colourful fixtures both in basins, toilets and fixtures. We want it all. Vendors bring it over asap 😉 Lots of proportion changes too in fixtures. So many vendors had industrial pipe size looking faucets and showers while some had tiny dainty thin ones. Last day we will dive deeper into the furniture halls :)

Recap of our first day visiting @isaloniofficial . We spent the first day focusing on EuroCucina. Coming from a kitchen design background this was something we wanted to tackle first. We saw a lot, it was packed! Highlights: 1. Lots of metal everywhere, wrapped millwork, countertops, shelves and a lot of brushed finishes 2. Integrated stone into hardware 4. Microcement looking lamainate on millwork. Looks so good. Can’t wait to see this in Canada. We know many have played around with microcement on cabinets, I just don’t see it holding up for years to come. This looks like a perfect solution 5. Metal looking wrapped or laminate millwork fronts. So smooth and honestly look like real burnished or gun metal without the cold touch and fingerprints. 6. Interesting raised stone edge profiles. We have played around with this already in our studio / projects. There is a place and time for it for sure. Just lot sure about a square vertical edge on a kitchen counter for clean ability . The beveled one though 👍 Let us know what you think!
