look five - ceremonial matcha 🌱
featuring:
hand-painted silk fabric
crochet slippers
eye mask
the design of the night gown is inspired by the qipao. i wanted to have a shorter hemline and no sleeves to reduce any heavyness. i added a hood because the shape reminds me of plant leaves. this fabric was leftover from another project, but it felt like it was missing something! i decided to paint a repeating matcha leaf pattern all over as an embellishment. this is my final look because it uses all the colors in the palette, and therefore frames the entire collection nicely.

look 4- matcha latte with cold foam 🍵🥛
featuring:
shower curtain
cotton stretch knit
silk
crochet slippers
eye mask
i knew i wanted to include a robe in this line. my old shower curtain had the perfect leafy pattern that reminded me of the matcha plant. there wasn’t quite enough of it to make a calf length robe, so i settled on a casual top with large kimono inspired sleeves and a bow tie. it is left open so it can be used as a cozy layering piece. the shorts are made with the same fabric from look three, with pockets and the same bow on the top. again, i wanted my looks to feel weightless!

look 3 - matcha tea 🫖
featuring-
fabric from a table runner
cotton stretch knit
silk
crochet slippers
eyemask
my mom found the table runner and called me, “hey this looks like matcha” and i was like “yes you are completely right!”. the shorts again are a modern take on the historical bloomer. i wanted to incorporate the ruffles on the top as well (once again resembling whipped cream). the knit fabric for the top has texture that looks like a drink being stirred. i wanted that to be the main focus, so i kept the silhouette simple.

look two - strawberry matcha 🍓
featuring
textured knit fabric (looks like my comforter!)
rayon knits
crochet slippers
eyemask
i wanted to combine the modern sweatpant with the bloomers of historical sleepwear. i also wanted to play around with lingerie, so the top is constructed with layers of semi-seethrough fabric and an open back. the airy quality of the top reminds me of whip cream on a latte. the high collar is inspired by the mandarin collar.

look one - lavender matcha 🍵
featuring
matcha-dyed cotton knit
bedsheets
crochet slippers
eyemask
the silhouette for the top was inspired by the qizhuang. i wanted to keep the design light so it would be comfortable to sleep in. the shorts and top both have flair. the top is cropped because i wanted to show the feeling of waking up and your pajamas are bunched up, without bunching up the pajamas

🍓🍵 matcha slumbers 🍵🍓
when i was brainstorming ideas for the “pursuit of happiness”, i was all over the place! so many things make me happy! i realized though, that my happiest days come from the best nights of sleep. how can i enjoy life without rest?
with this idea, i knew i wanted to construct sleepwear. i imagined perfect mornings- no alarm, some sunlight through a curtain, and a fun drink! matcha is my favorite tea (am i preformative 🤨🤨) because of this, the concept of matcha became my major design influence. i used it for my color palette, thinking about all the variation in flavors today (strawberry matcha, lavender matcha, etc). i used its history in eastern cultures to inspire my silhouette choices (kimono sleeves, high collars, asymmetrical openings). i dyed fabric with matcha! i painted the plant on fabric and added matcha leaf motifs where i could.
my favorite elements are the slippers and eye masks. i love to crochet so i felt like it was a must! and comfy shoes?? hello awesome. they also added unity and kept my collection cohesive.
i was so excited to receive the Best Story/Theme award at the show!

the mysterious nature of space reminded me of the mysterious nature of cloaks. i wanted this cloak to capture the essence of a deep sky, sprinkled with moons, winds, and stars. i constructed the cloak from a flannel blanket, and embroidered the moons. i also constructed the trousers, which are made from linen, a much lighter fabric compared to the cloak. the asymmetrical balance brings attention to both the cloak and the handmade moon clasp at the center.

for this look, i was inspired by pictures of different galaxies- specifically, how their color and movement contrasts the blackness of space. i captured this by constructing a mini dress with distinct lines and a cape that is layered, soft, and bouncy. (the cape fabric was donated by the lovely @hanana_tfa )
look #5 modeled by @dagny.alma
i crocheted the top to look like the dusk. the skirt is made from deconstructed jeans, with ruffled and painted details. the two garments are meant to contrast each other in fabric, but compliment each other in color.

look #4 from everlong modeled by @torimo9803
i made the top using fabric from old jeans. i wanted it to be open to the vulnerability the song talks about. i cut out stars/moon/cloud shapes from the left over scraps and sewed them to jeans using crochet yarn. this was to highlight the dusk turning to night.

i crocheted the top. it’s meant to be messy to reflect both grunge and the distressing message of the song. i cut apart old jeans and added a crochet panel to each side, the coloring reflecting the dusk.
