site update... Concrete, concrete, concrete ... site milstone as suspended concrete slab poured and framing works commenced at Kingsley College. The latest Kingsley project will provide much needed primary school GLA's and associated amenities. The new suspended GLA block is the final piece of the 'footpath network' puzzle as it will connect two parts of the school. An inspiring light well will provide aesthetic amenity and natural light. We can't wait for the end result . . . #qldarchitecture #school #education #construction #architecture

Developed in collaboration with @designaa__ , the design for @clubparkhurst draws on cues from the surrounding landscape to create spaces that feel welcoming, layered and full of character. Materiality, texture and atmosphere have been carefully composed to invite people in and support connection. It was exciting to see the design come to life last night at the club’s soft opening. Experiencing the spaces animated by people, conversation and movement was very rewarding. Congratulations on reaching this milestone — we are looking forward to seeing the club become an important part of the North Rockhampton community. Client: @rockhamptonleaguesclub Builder: Paynters

What does housing look like when community comes first? Housing design in First Nations communities hasn’t always reflected how community live, or what is valued most in a home. But that's starting to change across the state. Blaklash is working alongside Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council and the Department of Housing and Public Works to deliver the Woorabinda Design Principles. This is a tailored framework that captures community’s aspirations and needs, which until now have largely gone unactioned. These principles will guide all future infrastructure and housing design and construction projects in Woorabinda, helping create outcomes that genuinely reflect the people who live there. Recently, Troy and Tahlia travelled to Woorabinda with design collaborators @designaa__ and @phorm_architecture to meet with residents in their homes and talk with the broader community about what works and what doesn't for housing. Community has been so generous with what they have shared and we are really looking forward to visiting again next week to keep the conversations going.

Friday afternoon sketches… A new residence taking shape on a sloped site overlooking the Keppel Islands. Exploring a few key design principles: Multi-living Designed for an active family — flexible enough to function as one home, yet adaptable to separate living if needed, simply by closing an adjoining door. Connection to outdoors Working with the natural topography rather than against it — minimal shaping of the slope to create a series of garden courtyards that connect the home to its landscape. Privacy Bedrooms and shared spaces are carefully positioned to offer privacy for all residents, while maintaining framed views out to the Keppel Islands. Site management Respecting the site through minimal cut and fill. A strategic floor level step follows the slope, creating subtle tiers and a grounded, low-impact form.
