Thank you to Bundaberg Central Rotary Club for having us at the The University of Newcastle, Australia's Bundaberg National Science and Engineering Challenge this week! We were pleased to be sponsors, with Ivor Litkie (Principal Designer), Chris Erlangsen (Senior Engineer) and Elise Pearson (Engineer) each attending throughout the week to encourage the next generation of engineers and designers. 🧠📐🏗️💡
On Monday our own Ivor Litkie, Principal Designer, joined CQUniversity Australia's Benjamin Taylor and Bundaberg Regional Council's David Baldry to judge the structural bridges section.
High school students were tasked with building bridges out of two pieces of plywood, ice cream sticks, sticky tape and blue tack. A metal car on wheels then had to roll across with different weights... without their bridge failing!
Well done to all the primary and high school students who took part throughout the week, and to the teams from Rotary and Uni of Newcastle for putting on such a wonderful event. Thank you also to Rotary for sharing these photos of Monday's activities.

A few weeks ago our Director, Lachlan McMurtrie had the privilege of presenting a Carers Queensland Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) workshop. The BYOB program supports people with disability to develop their own microbusinesses, enabling participants to earn an income, increase self-confidence and achieve greater independence.
Lachlan's workshop included practical tips on creating a business plan, featuring examples from Lachlan's own (fictional) venture - Lachlan the Muffin Man. While he won't be pivoting careers into baking anytime soon, he was certainly happy to take on the role for a day and even went equipped with his own supply of muffins to share. 👨🍳🧁
Thank you to Carers Queensland for inviting Lachlan to take part in this invaluable program.

When you’re so in sync with your colleagues that you even pick the same patch of grass for a "mobile office." 🌾🚙📱
Engineers Amy and Ken were each out on the road on separate projects for North Burnett Regional Council until they both pulled over at the exact same spot near Biggenden to make use of the reception. Proof that our engineers are always on the same wavelength (literally)! 🤜🤛

It’s been a busy few months behind the scenes at MCE. We wanted to take a moment to introduce the new Senior Engineer and Senior Civil Designers who have joined our team in our Rocky office and newly-established Yeppoon office (which we’ll share more about soon!).
👋 Daniel Cagnola is a Senior Engineer who joined our Contract Administration team in February. Daniel is a seasoned project manager with 15 years in civil construction, primarily supporting councils and Department of Transport and Main Roads projects.
👋 Kathryn Payne also joined our team in February as Senior Civil Designer. Kathryn brings more than 20 years of industry insight, with a significant background at Transport and Main Roads.
👋 Jason Gustafson is a Senior Civil Designer based in our Yeppoon office. He joined us in January after 21 years at Livingstone Shire Council, bringing his outstanding local design expertise.
We’ve been so pleased to welcome them aboard!

📸📍Alf Larson Park, Miriam Vale
Something we love about being based regionally is seeing the impact in our community first-hand. Recently a member of our team was pleased to let their little explorers enjoy a stop in Miriam Vale at Alf Larson Park - one of our previous projects. 🛝🌳🤸🏻♂️
We looked after planning, detailed design and project management of this multimillion dollar redevelopment a few years ago - and in the time since, it's proven itself an outstanding contribution to the region. It's become a mainstay on the road trip itinerary of families travelling the Bruce Highway, boosting local business and bringing joy to little travellers and Miriam Vale locals alike.

We’ve recently received our registration under the Traffic Management Registration Scheme (TMRS). 🎉
This means we can now offer comprehensive traffic management design, auditing and planning support for:
✅ Large civil and infrastructure projects; and
✅ Council and local government projects.
We boast an accomplished crew of traffic management design experts among our engineers and designers. They’ve provided assistance to contractors on projects like the Rockhampton Ring Road (North), Rockhampton Ring Road (South), and the Moores Creek Bridge – establishing MCE’s reputation as a reliable partner in complex traffic management design work.
If you’re in need of traffic management design services for an upcoming major project, look no further. 🚧

A few shots showing a day in the life of Civil Engineer, Amy. 🚧📷🚙 Following rain and flood events, you'll find many of our team out on the road documenting the impact to support recovery efforts - these were taken to assist Rockhampton Regional Council. There's still lots of water around, but also some spectacularly green views 🌱
