Projects like this are for the victims and the community of loved ones they left too soon. The hope is that shining a light in the dark may prevent the need for more stories like this to be told. We hope you’ll watch and find some resonance. peace peace

futago その 4 // Derek Schultz b2b amita
Can’t lie, I’ve been really excited about this one.
Derek Schultz is a Brooklyn based filmmaker, editor and DJ with deep roots in the arts & culture and music scenes. Though he has stepped away from DJing, I’m extremely grateful that he has paused hiatus recently to share his incredible collection, taste, and storytelling lens to this mix.
Derek and I’s friendship started when GENG texted me “meet at Derek’s house for rehearsal”. Who is Derek?! A friend of the PTP crew, he quickly became a friend of mine as we bonded over our midwestern roots, shared our favorite jungle and electro tracks (respectively), and began mixing together. Overtime, and over lots of prebiotic sodas, Derek has become the person I back to back with the most as well as a dear collaborator and thought partner.
I absolutely adore Derek’s approach to DJing and music collection. He is deeply curious and obsessive with the things he loves. Which probably explains his meticulously curated and organized record collection. Preparing this mix, we continually exchanged ideas, tracks, and themes. I deeply appreciate how much thought and intention Derek put into this mix, which I think you will enjoy a lot! It is a beautiful genre exploration rooted in electro, challenging me to slow down a bit and dig through some incredible 130-150 tracks I have (and never played out).
Derek is truly a natural born storyteller, and you can tell through this thoughtfully patchworked 60 minutes. I enjoyed listening back to this so much, and know you will too.
Track list (!) at the end of the slides. 🔊tune in on SoundCloud, link in bio!
Thank you Derek for being part of this 🫶🏼
Room to Dream, Lynch’s hybrid biography/autobiography. If you aren’t familiar and you’re considering a deep dive in the wake of his transition, I can’t recommend it enough. Kristine McKenna will take one section of his life—like highschool—interview family and friends from that period, and she compiles their version of events as a chapter. McKenna presents the finished chapter to David, he reads it, and responds with his own account against theirs. sometimes he agrees, sometimes he rejects, sometimes he ignores their version completely and goes his own way. Those chapters are both presented back to back in the book. It’s a great study of projection vs perception and feels so in tune with his work
David Lynch’s work gave me an understanding of what’s possible; the type of creative life I wanted to pursue, that I should embrace the most unknowable mysteries because that’s where both art and life’s real joys are, that if you shine a light in darkness you may find love and curiosity underneath. without ever having met him he gave me and so many others a profound gift and I’ll forever be grateful.
rest easy with clear blue skies and golden sunshine all along the way
