Usually an ominous castle or mansion, the cinematic “house on a hill” is typically residence to a villain or shadowy recluse and perceived as a site of danger. In a pointedly ironic twist, however, Fischer exaggerates the “hill” into a vertiginous spire, while playfully transforming the “house” into a quaint pink cottage. This parodical attempt to translate a filmic cliché to sculptural form – bringing a fantasy to life in a material context – both suggests the emptiness of Hollywood artifice and the persuasive magic of the film industry. Fondation Beyeler | Benefit Auction 2024 Lot 3 Rudolf Stingel Untitled, 2019 Celotex insulation board, wood, aluminum 115 × 115 × 4 cm Signed on the wooden panel on the reverse Rudolf Stingel regularly intervenes in entire gallery and museum spaces. The present work is a fragment of the wall-to-wall, multi-room installation, constructed of Celotex insulation boards, which Stingel created for his major 2019 summer show at the Fondation Beyeler. On that occasion, he transformed parts of the exhibition, as well as the restaurant, into a silver-colored installation – and also into a palimpsest, into which visitors could literally inscribe themselves. We were delighted to attend ‘Abattoir’ by Aria Dean - the New York Interdisciplinary Artist’s first UK exhibition. The show features an immersive film installation with 8-channel sound, which traverses the interior of an empty slaughterhouse, which serves as an analogy to present broader architectures of colonialism, industrialisation, and fascism.
