Meet the newest Puppet Disco cast member, Muttsy Hound! 🐶
Check out this simple method to add a bit of extra animation to a hand and rod puppet. In this case, I used it for ears, but this also works to make wings flicker a bit!

THE IMMORTAL RACCOON PART 1
Here’s some process on my second upcycled animatronic, blending robotics with taxidermy to arrive at something potentially unholy but certainly pretty cute.
This is part one, where the original robot (Fur Real Friends lion cub circa 2006) gets stripped and the new skin is attached. As the raccoon pelt’s face (pelt also sourced second hand, don’t worry) didn’t really line up, I basically had to make one from scratch. Part two is coming soon, where we take this creature and mutilate it further into some WEARABLE art !!

We had the opportunity to shoot a bit with Torty the Traveling Turtle, mild spoilers for the locations in here 👀👀👀

💡CRAFT IDEA💡 : TAKE PLUSH DESTINED FOR THE LANDFILL AND MAKE A FRIEND YOU CAN PUT YOUR THINGS INSIDE OF.
Not technically a puppet, but a fun idea if you want something easy to craft up!
This took like $12 and less than two hours.
NOTE: As a collector of vintage plush (and ET things, apparently) myself, I understand if you have feelings about a piece like this (1982 Kamar Showtime E.T. The Extraterrestrial Extra Large Plush) getting modified. Please rest assured that this item is not rare, nor was this particular specimen in good condition. It was at the regular thrift store, meaning it was one step away from going to landfill. Now, it has much love and purpose again. If that’s not enough for you, please feel free to light me up in the comments.

Latex, foam, fabric, wood, paint, other materials I’m forgetting.
She is an upcycled animatronic base, complete with expressive movement and sound! Plus, a pocket in which to hide Her eggs!
The Queen already had the privilege of performing alongside “Horse Girl” at the Trinidad Lounge early last month, and will be making Her next appearance at an upcoming show or two… stay tuned!
There are precious few process photos, but you can at least see how the original toy was stripped and then integrated into a weighted “endoskeleton” base on which the Queen could be sculpted.
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN MAY SHE DESTROY THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY STRUCTURE
ALSO- I’m going to be sharing the puppets and animatronics I’ve been working on these last couple years FINALLY, on @denverpuppetdisco .
It feels really great to finally be able to start sharing this aspect of my craft that I’ve been keeping private for so long as I was learning.
