Dear friends abroad,
Turkey has been struck by two earthquakes with the multitude of 7.7, in the same region during the last 24 hours (first at 04.17 AM, second at 01.30 PM on the 6th of February). The affected region amounts up to ten cities and to the north of Syria. It is a disaster of unprecedented scale. Hospitals and airports are in ruins in several of the cities and people from the affected region are writing on Turkish social media asking for help from under the wrecks of buildings. Search and rescue teams are working their full potential, sadly the situation is out of their capacities, due to the number of ruins and the wide region the destruction has spread. The survivors are enduring winter conditions, while people under the ruins are facing the possibility of freezing before the rescue teams reach them.
