Some shots and tips from yesterday's vocal recording.
Close mics are Flea 12 and josephson e22s.
Behind the singer: blumlein's pair of Royer 121, which are paralleled through my lovely distortion/reverb pedal Screen Violence.
So we had 6 tracks to record: 2 close mics to choose and sculpt the main tembre from, then stereo-ambience track to deliver more early reflections and create depth, and then a nice shoegazy reverb to add authentic vibes that interacts with the music.
All of this was only for the main vocals, for doubles we used only close mics and ambience mics, but placed the singer far away from close mics. And for whispers we used only e22s for its massive proximity effect.
