Sound Effects is a solo noise punk project by musician Tom Whalen. All instruments are played by him, and all mixing is done digitally. Short bursts of songs are interspersed with freeform atonal compositions with limited breaks in between. All of this is meant to connect extremes of sound (volume, intensity, texture) into one collection, in a live set or album. The first Sound Effects album was called No Songs Yet, self-released in 2025. The next release will be a split tape with Yokohama-based experimental electronic duo KR-RIFLE.
