The day has finally come, my first solo exhibition Ancestral Silence is now open at @horshamregionalartgallery . This exhibition showcases my new photographic series I’m Trying to Feel What Once Was, a body of work that was two years in the making.
Thank you to the team at Horsham Regional Art Gallery for trusting me to fill a five room gallery space as an emerging artist that has only spent one year out of uni, initially chosen to represent the gallery for PHOTO 2026.
I am so proud of this exhibition. If you have the chance to see it, please do.
And a huge thank you to everyone who donated funds that went towards framing. I can’t express my gratitude enough. Thank you.
Thank you to Iris Papathanasiou from Neos Kosmos for taking the time to interview me about my solo exhibition Ancestral Silence at Horsham Regional Art Gallery. Iris articulated my ideas and intentions behind this body of work beautifully, thank you for giving me the opportunity to share more about the exhibition.

Yesterday, she opened her first solo exhibit, Ancestral Silence, at @horshamregionalartgallery ☀️
.
This photographic series (because our gal loves photo as her medium), explores her journey through Greece in 2024 and her observations of urban decay, cultural belonging and legacies of migration.

🇨🇾🇦🇺 @capers.thornbury is a masterclass case study in showing that you can bring traditional Greek & Cypriot food into a modern, open-minded context without having to eschew tradition and identity, nor mess with the food.
I’ve never really eaten anywhere like this, anywhere. We arrived to a tavli tournament in the back - or @tawle_in_naarm - and a look at @capers.thornbury Instagram shows a string of collaborations like the current art exhibition showcasing work from @demkrom (flick to the end).
Seeing louví (Cypriot for mavromatika fasolia) on a specials board always hits you in the feels if you’re Cypriot, but the Greek chefs here add a nice twist in the form of plenty of dill - and also some toasted coriander seeds. It works.
Plus Cypriot koubes, pastitsio (aka makaronia tou fournou 🇨🇾), homemade toursia and a proper saganaki. Herby potatoes taste like Yiayia’s and a plate of dolmadakia would have been the cherry on top had we not been spoiled with a special of sheftalia on the day.
It’s real Cypriot home cooking in a place that is deeply rooted in its local community, gets on with pretty much everyone, and enshrines its traditions and heritage in an honest way, reconciling it with the younger local crowd and guaranteeing the food we love a seat at future’s table.
Again, thanks for the tip and for organising @yitonia_ 🔥

A Distant Memory focuses on cultural loss, displacement and sense of belonging. Through @demkrom chromogenic darkroom prints, she utilises objects sold by her uncle in his post-migration years in Australia to explore notions of collective memory. This series questions how objects embraced by diasporic communities come to carry meaning and foster connections to cultural roots, impacting the perception future generations have of their heritage.
Demi Kromidellis is a multi-award winning emerging artist who has recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne. She has exhibited in a range of group exhibitions, including Develop at the Museum of Australian Photography, and proika, an independently run exhibition facilitated by networking group yitonia.
