Incredibly excited to announce the next BES release: “The St. Louis Sessions” EP out June 19th on DeepMatter Records. Today we release the first single “Chartreuse” featuring local St. Louis players Jawwaad Spann on Saxophone and Josiah Burton on Trumpet. Recorded by Austin LeMoine.

These sessions took place at Austin’s home studio which he built in STL. I brought some of my demos down from Chicago to St. Louis and we invited Jawwaad and Josiah over for an experimental session that we tracked right in his living room. After meeting for the first time and bonding over a shared taste in tunes and drinks, we recorded the horn takes live together over these demos. Their incredible musicianship and the roomy sound that Austin captured really elevated these tunes and made the collection feel uniquely their own. Proud to share them and blessed to work with such talented people!

this tune is the opening track to ‘as day breaks’ and was the final piece that pulled the whole thing together in the 11th hour, and it sounded a lot like this when i was writing it and figured i’d share a peek behind the proverbial curtain
tomorrow, the record finally touches down on all platforms and vinyl preorders ship
i started working on this music in 2024 so this is quite a rewarding moment to finally reach

Everything is Stolen Anway’ leans into the thought that art works the same way; every
melody, every painting, every idea carries echoes of something earlier. The track
centres its meaning around the comfort of repetition, and the idea that nothing we feel is
entirely new: Moments of love, loss and wonder arrive
to us as if they’re ours alone, yet they’ve all been lived before. Borrowed feelings,
borrowed time.
Songs are
fragments passed forward, reshaped, reframed, and retold through new hands and new
voices. In that sense, nothing is truly original. But the first time you hear or feel
something, it becomes new again.
