At the Sea & Space takeover in Piccadilly Circus an Earth Day moment that brought ocean science and space exploration into one shared conversation, the message was simple: there is only one system, and it needs protecting. Diving is one of the most demanding occupations in the world — physically, mentally, and environmentally. The 2051 Sea Odyssey University Challenge is now open for college, university, and graduate students. The challenge’s theme, “Underwater Tools and Logistics Planning,” invites student teams to design and/or prototype solutions that support safe and efficient work in complex underwater environments. Designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers in human undersea exploration, this program is a collaboration between DAN, UNC-Chapel Hill, DEEP, and the University of Utah. A new training course from the team at DEEP Campus 💡 @deepengineered Following a recent successful practice course, we’re delivering our first Submersible Search and Rescue training course this week. Designed for qualified pilots of acrylic-sphered submersibles, the course develops the skills needed to locate and recover another sub in distress. Using the controlled environment of our lake facility, students will gain hands-on experience in the techniques required to respond effectively to a stricken sub, helping to enhance safety standards across global submersible operations.
