Deep Crates: Dusty Fingers Edition We are honoring the legendary DJ and producer Danny Dan the Beat Mann with a whole night dedicated to songs from his Dusty Fingers, Strictly Breaks, and Schoolyard Breaks compilations. Danny Dan was at once a pillar an inspiration, and an irritation to the digging community as his compilations both educated deejays and exposed producers, revealing to the world once unknown and impossible to find samples and breakbeats. At the same time he was renowned and respected deejay and producer himself, running in the same crowd as those denouncing his compilations (no one knew he was the one producing them for decades). He is also known as the one who provided Biz Markie both the samples (and was the uncredited original producer) for “Just A Friend”. Deep Crates is an all vinyl night and popup market featuring deejays spinning classic and rare hiphop, funk, disco, electro, breakbeats, and samples and vendors selling vintage vinyl, clothing, collectibles, and art the first Friday of every month. RIP Danny Dan the Beat Mann TBB 183 Even before I joined TBB he was a huge influence. Hell, even before we knew who he was he was a big influence with his Dusty Fingers, Strictly Breaks, and Schoolyard Breaks collections. He was a legendary deejay, producer, (he produced “Just a Friend” for Biz Markie) and record digger, it was an honor to be down with him. He always showed mad love to Deep Crates when I was starting it, especially when I’d post records he included on his compilations 😂.
