I probably shouldn’t have been outside today… but I needed it. My friends held me up, made me laugh, made me dance… and for a few hours I felt okay. Then somehow I found myself sitting with a great DJ, great vibes, sharing pictures of my grandmother and her hats…. Grief will find you… but so will love. I’m grateful for both. I truly love my friend-family!

Still trying to find the right words. Winning an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Hairstyling for @reasonabledoubthulu caught me completely off guard. Against my number one supporter’s advice….. I wasn’t prepared with a speech, just overwhelmed with gratitude. I hope the words I found in that moment carried the sincerity I truly felt. We arrived and blended right into a room full of excellence. So when they called our name, it was a genuine surprise, not because I question our talent, but because standing among so much greatness made the moment even more meaningful. As I took that long walk from the back, past so many incredibly talented people, it all started to hit me. Step by step, the emotions got stronger… and somewhere between my seat and the stage, the emotions won. The “ugly cry’ made a very brief appearance. This one, I’m just grateful. Grateful to be trusted with the work. Grateful to be part of a project that represents us with excellence. Grateful for a team that makes the long hours worth it. To be part of storytelling that honors us, and to have that work recognized, is something I’ll never take lightly. Thank you to the entire cast and crew, and to everyone who supports the journey behind the scenes. We missed you @onekoolkid 😘😘
