Projektstart „We Are In This Together – Neue Empfindungen für Remote-Audiences in VR- und Tanz-Performances” 👾
Wie können Gaming-Prinzipien das Publikum mobilisieren und in die Aufführungspraxis einbinden? 🎮 Mit welchen interaktiven Mitteln können die Zuschauer*innen in den Verlauf und die Bewegungsdynamik eingreifen? 👋 Und wie kann die Performance remote aktiv mitgestaltet werden? 🎭
Anna-Carolin Weber (Choreografin) und Tobias Kopka (Interaktionsdesigner) erforschen mit VR Dance Club und Richard Lemarchand (Forscher & Game Designer) die Einbindung von Besucher*innen in hybriden und transmedialen Aufführungen. Ziel ihrer Forschung ist es, durch die kollaborative Teilhabe das Remote-Publikum auf Augenhöhe in das künstlerische Aufführungsgeschehen zu integrieren. 🧑💻
In ihrem ersten Forschungsansatz mit dem Titel „Press X to Push Dancers Off Stage“ (gefördert vom NRW KULTURsekretariat) erproben sie, wie räumlich getrennte Besucher*innen das Bühnengeschehen durch den Einsatz virtueller Technologien sinnlich intensiv erleben und mitgestalten können. 👏

I spent the day and weekend in the best way possible: oscillating between our residency place in Dortmund, going for nice breakfast 🍳or dinners 🍕and the doing the occasional walks.
After coming already back from a lovely citytrip to Munich (garden walks, museums and of course dcp) and Vienna (walks, wine, meetings, art and theatre) the best possible present I could give myself together with Anna was to toy a little more with projectors, mapping, cameras, lights and our interactive system, as we wrap our current artistic research phase end of the month (more soon in other posts) and will leave this lovely theatre and tech lab at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality soon (for now :) ).
Also gamescom congress is now in full swing (call has just opened), and a few more projects like the European Game Showcase and Art of Coding, are taking up speed again, so staying in the dark and playing with buttons and movement and technology was the absolute best way to spend the weekend (with a little more outdoor things today).
So thank you again for thinking of me, will soon share dates for a proper party in the upcoming months (even though you might know I am notorious for not celebrating my birthdays - but it is definitely time). 🪤🕺🕶️

This year has been extensive, explorative, and exhausting – but deeply rewarding. Between conference programming, teaching and coaching, and pushing our artistic work to the last moment with a new premiere just days ago (new engine, new script, new interaction design, basically everything built from scratch), it’s been a full spectrum of stretching in different directions, rewarding and exhilarating at the same time. 🥳
Now finally winding down until January 10. That might mean finally sharing all the things that happened in the meantime… or maybe just posting pictures like these as we take long walks and ski in the alps. We’ll see how the mood strikes.
I’ll update you properly in January.

Before disappearing into the year’s end festivities, VR Dance Club would like to thank all partners, participants, guests, and friends who helped make the premiere series of THE FUTURE IS US on December 19th + 20th @tanzfaktur such a meaningful and intense experience.
Two days. Four shows. Each one a 90-minutes-mediachoreography of moving, listening, hesitating, and positioning — together.
What unfolded was only possible because so many people trusted the process and entered the space with openness and curiosity. Your presence, engagement, and feedback turned each performance into a unique shared moment, shaped in real time.
A big shoutout to all collaborators, artists of our team, performers and supporters who carried this premiere. This was not an endpoint, but a beginning! We look forward to what comes next. Until then: thank you for being part of Us.
