โI am an interdisciplinary artist working with materials and processes that reflect my cultural heritage and personal experiences. Born in Mexico and raised in Southern California, my work draws from the traditional crafts of indigenous peoples in Mexico and the labor of immigrant communities. Currently, I weave pipe cleaners and paint with encaustic wax, exploring themes of labor as currency and the inherent value in everyday materials.
Through mixed media painting and sculpture, my art practice seeks to create objects that connect people through shared experiences and open up opportunities for art engagement across socioeconomic backgrounds. A key part of my artistic process involves examining and cataloging childhood memories, which have become important in tracing my assimilations across two cultures.โ

Chelsea Bighornโs works are made with painstaking care and attention to detail by hand. Drawing from the visual language of powwow regalia, its color, movement, and ornamentation, Bighornโs work
evoke the rhythms and choreography of dance. Beaded surfaces, suspended fringe, and the incorporation of jingle cones and bells introduce a latent sense of motion, as though the works carry the memory of performance within their structure.
