“The most difficult challenge I have ever faced was losing my father, Prince Felix .E. He was my hero, my best friend, my gist partner, and my first love. He had this beautiful sense of humor that could light up anywhere. He took me on my first date, bought me my first books, and loved teaching me things. He was strict, yes, but he knew how to balance it with love. It’s funny how I feared him and loved him at the same time. That was the kind of man he was. Strong, wise, loving, and unforgettable. The hardest thing life has ever asked me to do was to keep living without him. To wake up and accept that someone who felt so permanent was suddenly gone. To grow up without the man I thought would always be there. People always said time would heal. I remember the hugs, the kisses, the “don’t worry, time will heal.” But if I’m being honest, time does not heal the loss of someone you truly loved. What time does is give you distractions. It gives you life to face, people to meet, things to do, reasons to laugh again, reasons to keep going. It keeps moving, and somehow you move with it. So have I overcome it? No. I don’t think I have. I have just been distracted enough by time to learn how to live without my dear Felix. But not a day goes by that I don’t carry him with me.” -Debby Felix
