THE CAC MALAGA PRESENTS FOR FUTURE PURPOSES BY ATANDA QUADRI ADEBAYO , the first solo exhibition by artist Atanda Quadri Adebayo (Lagos, Nigeria, 1999) in a museum. The show, curated by Fernando Francés, is composed of nineteen paintings and two sculptures of various formats produced over the last two years, some of them created expressly for this exhibition. Adebayo’s work portrays the culture and daily life of Nigeria, focusing on the details and expressiveness of its subjects through paintings that are full of colour and a sense of identity. Dedicated to representing his culture and the realities of his country, he has become a key name on the Nigerian art scene. For Future Purposes is a journey of introspection into the artist’s mind through a selection of works done mainly in charcoal, with touches of acrylic colour. Adebayo uses the fluid medium of his painting to depict and vindicate proud and empowered characters who remain unwavering in the face of adversity.
