Fantastic lunch and studio visit with @deanwareham today. I can attest that he nailed the solo when I wasnât filming but I find these versions charmingly compelling. A guitar/painting trade was involved but rest assured Dean went home with his G500 Black Beauty. I first met Dean at a Galaxie 500 show in 1990 at the Kennel Club in San Francisco. I was just barely underage but got a press pass from Jeff Klindt at Thrasher Magazine. I wore a camera around my neck even though I didnât really know how to operate it. We went backstage and Dean was kind to a nerdy young superfan. Now weâre both âdignified and oldâ but Iâm still a superfan. @taqueriacuernavaca

Naomi: âIt just felt so glamorous doing Peel Sessions. All these bands we loved had done them, so it was exciting. And [playing The Sex Pistols] was so fun because no one ever thought we were punk rock. It was always, âGalaxie 500? Theyâre slow, theyâre quietâŠâ But punk was such a big influence for us, and it was fun playing against type.â
Dean: âI had a cassette of us, playing it super late one night in my dorm room very loud, and I think I was probably on drugs. My graduate advisor lived downstairs and came up screaming at me because it was thumping through the floor.â
Damon: âNaomiâs Ampeg B-18 she still records with âWe found a B-18 in the classifieds and went to check it out. The seller turned out to be Aerosmithâs touring keyboard player, gold records on the wall, real furniture⊠we still had futons. The amp was in the bedroom with a lamp on it. He said, âMy girlfriend wants it gone. She says itâs a side table.â We bought it. Naomi still records with it. Itâs in our living room now â with a lamp on it.â
