Competing in the 2026 East End Surf Challenge was truly an honor, especially with this being the first time the event has been held in 11 years.

The 2025 ProAm Stock World Champion- Vanjae! The hardest fought title I’ve seen in a long time and the clear best runabout racer for closed course at the Finals.
Let me all tell you about VJ. This might look long but trust me it’s worth it.
A month ago I was talking about if I was even going to come to the Finals this year. The only reason I was able to was because his Dean like work ethic.
Then he did the long haul himself across country bringing my skis to Havasu.
Then when he got here, he hit the ground running by getting other racers skis finished and on and off the water.
So Friday, the day before Pro Stock comes around, and he finally goes out to test. I sent VJ six new props to try and seven new tunes. He put the first ones in there and didn’t even test anymore. He told me because he was happy with where the ski was at, but really it’s because we ran out of time to test anymore and at this point he has to be so exhausted from the week.
The night before the race he tells me that he’s not sure if he’s going out there for Pro Stock because he’s feeling under the weather. There was no way I’d let him sit this one out though because I knew what could happen.
Then moto 1 takes off, and he comes around the front straight with the hole shot and never looks back.
At that moment I felt more connected to my dad than I have since he passed.
The rest of the day he has to fight scoring errors and decisions that officials have admitted to us were wrong.
I know 100000% we have so much left in that 325 and I wish I could have helped him test more and get him easier hole shots without dumb riders running across his hood.
But through it all, the hard work, the long drive, taking care of everyone else in the heat all week, getting hurt before he can even take his first turn…
Vanjae still finds a way to prevail and win it on the track for his first IJSBA world title.
If that’s not a legend I don’t know what is.
This man has been by my side, offering whatever help he can give me since the moment that Dean went to the hospital.
This would be one of Dean’s proudest moments of his life, and now it is for me. Thank you for making this happen.
Meet your 2025 Pro Stock World Champion! You see those stock sponsons he did it on too? Got plenty to say about today later but overwhelmed with emotions right now. We did this with Dean and for Dean. This would mean the world to him. His favorite class, on the 325 which he put more hard work and time into making great than anyone. Think this win and this day would have been one of his favorite days of his life. And no one knows like I do how much Vanjae deserves this. He’s worked harder than anyone I know, just like Dean would have, to make Havasu happen this year for our teams. I wouldn’t even be out here without him. And he didn’t even have time to test and practice on this ski like we wanted to. He tested this setup for the first time yesterday, and went out today his first time racing this ski in closed course, and hole shotted and won the first moto. Even after getting taken out on the start. There’s so much more we want to test and work with on this ski, we know we still have so much more left in it. But he dedicated the last month on helping get other peoples skis ready to make Havasu even happen. Hell he just put the retainers in that ski this week. More stories and posts to come. I want to tell a little story about Dean’s last birthday and one of the last memories I had with my dad.
In October last year, HP Tuners came down to Orlando for a photoshoot day with our Sea-Doo 325. Now if you know Dean, you know how excited he got for stuff.
A couple things about this day made it really special.
One, this was only the second time in the last 8 years I got on a jetski with my dad. Two, it was the day before his birthday. And it was the best birthday gift any of us could have given him.
Being out on the water with my dad all day, seeing him smile and laugh and joke, is something I’ll always hold on to. It was one of the last times I’ve seen him at his happiest.
Having one last ride with him will always be one of my favorite days ever now.
This was one week before his surgery to remove his prostate to get rid of his cancer. This is why I decided to take the rare day off and go out on the water with him for his birthday, in case anything happened with his surgery or cancer I just wanted to have this one last special day with him at least.
Everything went well with his surgery, but the recovery in the time after was definitely tough on him. Still, he was right back to work even before doctors wanted him to be, of course. He wouldn’t have been Dean if he listened to them.
Fast forward to 7 months later, I found him unresponsive in his office. Which started a month of hell of the worst memories I could ever have now.
But what has helped is looking back at pictures from days like this. The good times, the great times together. Something that can never be taken from either of us. Those moments will live on forever for all of us.
