SAM의 회전하는 양면 벽은 앞/뒤, 안/밖, 여기/저기, 나/너, 우리/그들, 그리고 Asian/Agent 사이의 명확한 경계를 뒤섞고 흐리게 만든다. 휘슬에서 열리는 단체전 1부에는 야마오카 캐리, 강동호, 박그림, 아이작 총 와이, 이강승, 김무영, 곽영준 등 총 7명의 작가가 참여하며, 2부 전시는 오는 4월 코먼웰스 앤 카운슬에서 이어질 예정이다. Whistle is pleased to present 「Secret Asian Man Presents: 언니(unni)」, a collaborative exhibition with Commonwealth and Council (CwC). Since 2025, Secret Asian Man (SAM) has unfolded through a series of exhibitions situated in the liminal space of a doorway of within the gallery space of CwC. The rotating, double-sided walls of SAM, conflate clear delineation between front/back, inside/outside, here/there, me/you, us/them, and Asian/Agent. 프리즈로 떠들썩한 시기에 저는 조금 다른 소식을 전합니다. 저의 첫 번째 시집이 오늘 출간되었습니다. 2018년 무렵부터 쓰기 시작한 60편의 시가 수록되어 있습니다. 아낌없는 도움을 주신 아침달 분들과 담당 편집자이셨던 이기리 시인님, 발문을 써주신 황사랑 평론가님께 감사함을 전합니다. 누구든지 시집을 들고 만나는 순간을 기다리겠습니다. @achimdal.books [출간 안내] “꿈과 잠 사이에서 무의식적으로 깨어나 자기 증명에 실패한 얼굴들을 다시 그려보는 자화상” 시인 강이현의 첫 시집 『다른 명찰을 보여주는 관계자』가 아침달 시집 52번째로 출간되었습니다. “활달한 상상력과 그 배면에 스민 쓸쓸한 감수성”이라는 아침달 큐레이터(정한아, 박소란) 평을 받으며 탄생한 이번 시집은 명징한 시적 상황 속에서 서로 일으키는 미세한 마찰과 균열을 놀랍도록 차분한 자세로 마주합니다. 삶과 종종 어긋나는 상태들에 주목하여 이를 단정하고 깨끗한 목소리로 받아 적습니다. 시집은 현재 온라인 서점에서 만나보실 수 있으며, 오프라인 서점도 순차 입고될 예정입니다. 독자 여러분과 긴밀히 관계할 수 있는 시집을 가까이 만나주세요!

<Secret Asian Man presents: 언니(unni)> Whistle 20 March – 2 May 2026 Carrie Yamaoka, Dongho Kang, Grim Park, Isaac Chong Wai, Kang Seung Lee, Muyeong Kim, Young Joon Kwak Commonwealth and Council 4 April – 16 May 2026 Candice Lin, Cirilo Domine, Dongho Kang, Grim Park, Haneyl Choi 한국어에서 ‘언니’라는 말은 친밀함과 유대감을 함축하는 익숙한 호칭으로, 주로 여성이 같은 성별의 연장자를 지칭할 때 사용된다. 그러나 이 일상적인 단어 속에는 주체성, 성적 정체성, 공동체와 같은 문제들과 맞닿아 있는 사회 구조에 대한 전제들이 내재해 있다. 관계의 가까움을 드러내는 이 호칭은 우리가 어느 시점에서 누구를 ‘언니’로 지칭하는지를 되묻게 한다. 실제로 많은 퀴어 남성들도 나이와 상관없이 서로를 ‘언니’라고 부르는데, 이는 한국 사회에서 고정된 것처럼 보이는 젠더 역학이 확장되고 전복되어 왔다는 사실을 보여준다. 또 ‘언니’는 돌봄과 책임 사이의 균형을 내포하는 존재이기도 하다. 이번 전시는 이러한 다층적 의미를 통해 참여 작가들의 작업을 맥락화하고, 우리가 서로와 함께 존재하는 방식을 새롭게 생각해 보고자 한다. -전시 서문 발췌. 글. 최장현- For anyone that speaks the Korean language, ‘unni’ is immediately familiar as a term that signifies kinship and closeness, used by women to refer to older individuals of the same gender. Embedded in this everyday terminology are social structures that touch on subjectivity, sexuality, and community. Plenty of queer men also call each other ‘unni’, suggesting how gender dynamics in Korea have been stretched and subverted. ‘Unni’ balances care and responsibility, as she is expected to guide the younger ones. By embracing its various layers as a framework, the exhibition seeks to identify the radical possibilities of this ordinary word that helps us reimagine how to exist with each other. -Excerpt from the exhibition text by Harry C. 서울에서 진행 중인 휘슬과 코먼웰스 앤 카운슬의 협업 전시 1부에 이어 LA에서 열리는 2부 전시에도 참여합니다. Secret Asian Man presents: unni (언니) Candice Lin, Cirilo Domine, Dongho Kang, Grim Park, Haneyl Choi April 4, 2026–May 16, 2026 Meanwhile, Dongho Kang’s paintings produce an eerie interplay of distance and proximity, as the artist repurposes images found from sources ranging from black and white films to the Internet, reconstructing the sequence of events that are seemingly familiar and yet estranging like a forensic expert. In Wrench, Kang fixes his gaze on the uncanny dynamic between a needle-nose plier and a wrench. The plier is gripping onto the wrench as a jeweler would handle a delicate finding; the dangling miniature object insinuates that the canvas captured a moment of transit, the wrench on the move from one place to another.
