Dead Finks, the long-running „post-punk“ project based out of Berlin, are on their way back with a fourth record, one that maintains their trademark blend of hysterical cynicism and strident earnestness. Their unique position on the spectrum between sarcasm and sincerity has, for a while now, gained them scraps of attention within the underground. New Plastik Abyss, an album teeming with ideas and bristling with a nervy, colourful confidence. The propulsive, often abrasive sound of their previous records has been tempered somewhat by shimmering guitars, hyper-melodic vocal lines and an increased emphasis on clarity and dynamics that absorbs classic pop songwriting, shoegazy textures and avant garde art-music into their canon. But it all still hits like a piston, with the conviction and vitality characteristic of a band evolving beyond their roots. Dead Finks have sharpened their edges and their gaze in what feels like a breakthrough.

This month’s show is up! A lovely chat with my buds Joey and Erin from DEAD FINKS whose new full length NEW PLASTIK ABYSS just came out. ft. old, new, borrowed, blue and Kiwi-focussed selections, my personal faves from the Dead Finksocgraphy, plus gentle and silly chat about The Byrds trajectory and the underrated freaky-normal pipeline, having rocker parents deep in the rootsy folk and punk universe and yet not ending up in a folk punk band, who is the vietnamese Mikey Young, teenage trysts with Christ b/w christian rock as ultimo obstacle to salvation, the role of the devil in our lives, a QUIZ about NATIVE FROGS, Lemon and Paeroa, the creative process behind Dead Finks' increasingly demented music videos, SKUX ontology, a lot of chuckling from me. I love my genius friends and their sounds. Novozelandsko-berlínský post-punkový úkaz DEAD FINKS poprvé v Plzni. Kapela se do ČR vrací v plné polní, aby ti naložila svůj charakteristický mix hysterického cynismu a totálně obnažené upřímnosti. Energický a drsný kytarový zvuk na aktuálním albu nečekaně prosvětlují zářivé kytary a hypermelodický vokály. Do jejich post-punkovýho základu tak plynule vtéká špína shoegazu i dravost klasickýho popu. Pojď si poslechnout nový New Plastik Abyss!

Dead Finks, das langjährige Post-Punk-Projekt aus Berlin, melden sich mit ihrem vierten Album zurück, das ihren typischen Mix aus hysterischem Zynismus und schriller Ernsthaftigkeit beibehält. Ihre einzigartige Position im Spannungsfeld zwischen Sarkasmus und Aufrichtigkeit hat ihnen in der Underground-Szene schon seit einiger Zeit Aufmerksamkeit beschert. Besonders in ihrer Heimatstadt besetzen sie eine ungewöhnliche Nische: Berlin ist heutzutage nicht gerade für gitarrenlastige Musik bekannt und im schlimmsten Fall wirkt die Stadt oft, als könne sie sich nicht entscheiden, ob sie ein riesiger Club, eine dysfunktionale Kommune oder eine Content-Farm für ein Venture-Capital-finanziertes Start-up sein will.
Doch die Finks sind vor allem eines: hartnäckig. Ihr überraschendes viertes Album hat ihr bisher stärkstes und zugänglichstes Werk hervorgebracht: „New Plastik Abyss“, ein Album voller Ideen und mit einer nervösen, farbenfrohen Selbstsicherheit.
Der treibende, oft raue Sound ihrer früheren Alben wurde durch schimmernde Gitarren, hypermelodische Gesangslinien und einen stärkeren Fokus auf Klarheit und Dynamik etwas abgemildert. So fließen klassisches Pop-Songwriting, Shoegaze-Klänge und Avantgarde-Kunstmusik in ihren Kanon ein.
Doch die Musik hat nach wie vor eine Wucht, mit einer Überzeugung und Vitalität, die darauf hindeutet, dass die Band kurz davor steht, den Status einer bloßen Kuriosität hinter sich zu lassen. Dead Finks haben ihre Kanten und ihren Blick geschärft – ein wahrer Durchbruch.

Dead Finks, post-punkový objev z Berlína, se vrací s novým albem do Prahy. Zachovávají si jejich charakteristickou směsici hysterického cynismu a pronikavé upřímnosti. Jejich jedinečné postavení na pomezí sarkasmu a upřímnosti jim již delší dobu zajišťuje pozornost v undergroundové scéně. Energický, často drsný zvuk je poněkud zjemněn zářivými kytarami, hypermelodickými vokálními linkami a větším důrazem na čistotu a dynamiku. Do jejich repertoáru tak proudí klasické popové skladby, shoegazové zvuky i avantgardní umělecká hudba.
Dosud nejsilnější a nejpřístupnější dílo – album New Plastik Abyss, překypuje nápady a srší nervózní, pestrou sebejistotou, bude v Praze představeno 20. května na Cargo Gallery.
Amen Break (CZ)
Nová kapela na pražské scéně z hudebního kolektivu The Last of Fuzz. Amen Break je čtyřčlenná kapela v typické rockové sestavě: kytary, basa, zpěv a bicí. A přesto je nejde zařadit k jednomu žánru. Zažijete klidné shoegaze pasáže, nekompromisní chaos i velkolepý noise rock. Jo a riff amen break nehrají.
