journal entry incoming…… I’ve been discovering how to fit within and outside of this box called “street jazz” and “street styles” and what that means for someone that creates stylistically fused choreography, and how to honor the class title as I have the opportunity to connect with movers from all over who may have a certain expectation when taking for the first time (s/o to BDC for creating this space for us to connect). With that, I’ve strayed a lot further from my roots in contemporary danseee. I mean, so many years rolling around the floor you guys. I want to dive back into it with my baby teacher shoes on, and I received a good amount of support from my community in doing so. So we’re doing it! Extra class this month, just to play around together. Next week :) contemporary (fusion) on wednesday, detiny style for 2hrs on friday.
hope to dance with you soon <3

i’m nearing 9 months teaching at @bdcnyc … and we have a weekly slot loading!! this journey has unfolded before my eyes in ways i could’ve never imagined. here’s a low res accumulation of all but 1 of the classes we’ve had together since june (in chronological order!) (all but 2 clips are our full run together at the end). each class has been so unique and special.. a container for the specific day, group, how i showed up and how our energy cultivated together in that space. ty x a million. i’m so excited to continue building together 🧱
big shoutouts to @kenichi.kasamatsu + @80sb.a.b.y for all the subbing opportunities, mentorship, guidance, love and always helping me realize all i am capable of way before i could do so myself. ever since my first days in nyc 5 years ago. we aren’t meant to do any of this alone!! sm love
hope to dance with you this spring 🌱💜

Featuring Destiny Nguyen at DIFFRACTION Dance Festival 2026.
Destiny Nguyen (she/they) is a Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer, and educator. After receiving their BFA from Temple University, they emerged into the commercial and concert dance scenes in Philadelphia and New York City.

“heartbeat” at our april pop up with some incredible and amazing artists 😭🫀 kept the raw audio in so u can hear my real time reactions hahah. i mean CMONNNNN
i definitely lean towards more technical exploration in my choreography (both repertory and teaching). this was one of the first combos i’ve made that was rooted in emotional connection to music. considering… what is sasha talking about? how can the movement i choose embody THAT? as opposed to, how my chosen movement can embody the textures, timbre and dynamics of the sounds themselves, which is where i usually land. if you are familiar with my style / classes, you know we do a lot of listening here 👂🧠 , always with the option of listening here 🫀, but i wanted to approach this one with the heart first. i let that guide the chosen movement sequence (aka choreo lol)
all this to say, progress and the journey are so non linear. when you feel yourself going in one direction, you may unexpectedly be up and going in another in a moments notice, informed by inspiration struck by a song you listened to for the first time on the downtown A train from 59th st lololol. we can’t try to be in too much control of what we do and how, just in control of how we listen.

class de_mos with @kenichi.kasamatsu - one of my fav things i get to do (keep up with ken)
i think this is one of my fav ken combos (and i’ve done so many lolol). march was a MONTH omg. i experienced an extremeeeee abundance of all facets of life, and depths of emotion on all ends of all spectrums in ways i was not prepared for (joy, stress, exhaustion, jubilee, creative fervor, grief, love). anyway, this week in particular was very emotionally/spiritually heavy. we had all just received the news of sam’s passing, hearts heavy to varying degrees, some craving community and time spent around our loved ones especially in the dance space. i remember having a super soft heart the afternoon of this class spent with ken prepping and thinking, is it weird to keep pushing on? why should we continue work as usual? i was also teaching that evening at bdc.. and amidst a really in depth process creating and directing an elements set with @charchk__ . sometimes life shocks us and requires us to pause for moments, ground ourselves and move forward with reminders of why we do what we do and how we can show up to life honoring that. i feel this combo encompasses the scope of feelings i had in those days, mostly catharsis but also comfort🫀
