From your first candlelighting to your lastâ€ïžđ
âYou are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.â
â Matthew 5:14â16
We loved getting to reconnect with our alumni at this month's alumni coffee hour! Be sure to be on the lookout for our next one if you missed it. This event is a great way to network, forge lasting relationships, and maybe even get some DBU swag!
Yesterday was National Teacher Day, and weâre celebrating two DBU alumni now serving in education! Alli (â22) and Grace (â23) are Pre-K partner teachers at West Dallas Community School (WDCS).
Alli shared:
âReflecting on my time at DBU, I canât help but be grateful for the valuable lessons I learned that I now get to use in my classroom. Specifically during my senior year, I took a practicum class that required an internship. For my internship I chose to work with Behind Every Door. Behind Every Door is a community center in South Dallas that serves as a faith-based after-school program, but also has lots of opportunities for education, sports, camps, and much more! The faith filled education I received from DBU coupled with experiences like working at Behind Every Door, allowed the Lord to shape my heart for my current role at West Dallas Community School. At West Dallas Community School, I get to work with children that come from a variety of different backgrounds, cultures, and family units. To the current students at DBU, I would soak up the wisdom that you are surrounded with daily and remember that soon YOU will get to be on the frontlines molding young minds! It is truly kingdom work!â
Grace shared:
âWorking at WDCS feels like getting to be part of kingdom work every single day. This school has been so faithfully led, prayed over, and poured intoâand you can truly see that in everything it is. My favorite part of each day is spending time in Godâs Word with my pre-K students. Some of them come in with little to no knowledge of Jesus, and by this time of year, they really start to understand just how much He loves them. It brings me so much joy to watch them take in everything theyâre learning with so much excitement, innocence, and genuine faith. I get to see childlike faith on full display! Because of this job and these kids, I understand the heart of Jesus in a deeper way than I did before. To students at DBU, I would encourage you to be confident in the calling God has placed on your heart! God has already prepared good works for you to walk in, and Heâs preparing you now for everything ahead so walk into it with confidence!â
Did you know that today is #nationalgreeklifeday?! To celebrate let's look back at DBU greek life through the years! What greek life organization were you in?
From growing up in a pastorâs home to writing and producing worship music that serves churches around the world, DBU alumnus Chris Clayton â00, â19 has spent his life living out a calling shaped by faith, family, and his time on University Hill. What began in the local church and was refined at Dallas Baptist University has become a global ministry of musicâwhere creativity meets servant leadership and every song is written to point people to Jesus.
