STORYTELLERS | Ep. 37 ft. @daxattacks Check out our latest episode where Dax Valdes describes what it was like being the only kid of color in his class, how storytelling can elicit empathy, and how being a constant student of something keeps it going. Big hugs my friend and so loved reliving this interview - thank you for sharing your heart! This series is intended to discover why we as humans have an innate desire to express, and how that expression can bring us together. Reposting from my dear friend @soomdawg !! I highly recommend this workshop for any creative person!! Soomi and @daxattacks are amazing artists and teachers, and you will not want to miss this chance to bring your body more into your artmaking. ā¤ļø ….. Looking to integrate movement into your creative practice? Join us for our inaugural movement workshop, an all-levels generative laboratory for artists across disciplines: theatre makers, directors, actors, dancers, and beyond. Rather than focusing on technique, we use guided prompts and somatic exercises to help you discover new entry points into generative movement, staging, and embodied storytelling. Come re/discover your joy of movement. Led by Soomi Kim (she/her), a NYC-based actor, theatre maker, choreographer, and performer whose work integrates movement, text, and multimedia, and Dax Valdes (he/him), an actor, movement director, and facilitator working at the intersection of arts, social justice, and education. Dax is also a performer in Soomi’s current project in development, GUT (굿). Together, they will lead a workshop that invites artists to explore rigor, play, and collaboration—encouraging participants to take risks, connect more deeply to their bodies, and generate new material in a supportive environment. Saturday May 16, 2026 12-3 @open_arts_studio Registration link in bio 🤩 @daxattacks #MovementWorkshop #GenerativeMovement #PhysicalTheatre #TheatreMakers #NYCArtists

The last 365 days went like this (in no particular order): Traveled, spent time with friends and family, saw theater, made theater, saw art, made art, danced, moved apartments, held babies, swam in the ocean, SSCd, voted, trained, got inspired, boxed, got inked, marched and protested, danced, connected and reconnected. This last year was an abundance of blessings of the life I choose to live, for all I get to share it with - day to day, face to face, thru the thumbs or voice dictation, the written word, fleeting thoughts, however brief. Being inspired by amazing people I’ve been in the room with and bringing that forward into rooms I have the opportunity to be in as well as my daily thoughts and actions. The next 365 days: rinse and repeat. Level up. #thisis47 #777 #vaughnspann

12 June 1898 is when Filipinos declared independence from 333 years of colonial rule from Spain. The U.S. colonization lasted 48 years from 1898-1946. Before 1962, Independence Day was celebrated on 4 July to commemorate the day when the U.S. recognized Philippine independence in 1946. This is a reminder to myself and all who read this, to investigate how and most especially where we live. To live with integrity. To not be perfect or wait for what is ideal. The time is now. We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors. I am a queer, Filipino-American child of immigrants. This is an invite to continue to be brave, practice care, for ourselves and especially each other. Celebrate your small wins. Rest and Resist. āœŠšŸ¼šŸ‡µšŸ‡šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø #PhilippineIndependenceDay #PrideMonth #ChildrenOfImmigrants #Resist #NoKings

I have been consumed with anger and grief about what’s happening. I am thinking about this from a place of privilege. I’m constantly in my own cycle of learning and unlearning. What I am certain about is unequivocally rejecting the antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-immigrant bias occurring. Do your own learning and unlearning. Call your elected officials to demand a ceasefire. Don’t ignore or be silent because it’s uncomfortable or you don’t know what to do; smaller actions lead to bigger change, for better or worse. Above all, do not let this be our legacy. History does not have to repeat itself. Resharing this post with gratitude for the creators chikasacasa and company: REPOSTING WITH BIGGER & CLEARER FONT & GRAPHIC FOR BETTER ACCESSIBILITY āœŠšŸ¾šŸ‡µšŸ‡øšŸ‡µšŸ‡ The dehumanization of Filipinos during the American colonization and the treatment of Palestinians by Israel exemplify the enduring legacy of colonialism, dehumanization, and propaganda. These historical parallels are a stark reminder of the impact of such actions on native populations. They call upon us to recognize the importance of cultural diversity, self-determination, and shared humanity as we work towards a world where such injustices are consigned to history. #freepalestine #ceasefirenow #learningandunlearning #learningtogether #filipinoamericanhistorymonth #filipinoamericanhistory #filipino
