ACT 3/3: The People Around The Team, Fans (And A Yes)
Last set from Sacramento. This one’s not really about the tries.
It’s about everyone else: the backbone of the team, unsung heroes, kiwi fans.
The reserves warming up in front of me the whole game, waiting for their shot. The coaches pacing and talking. The staff hauling water bottles and tape and whatever else these players need. The fans who flew in or drove hours just to see this team in person.
And yes. Someone got engaged: Before the match even started, someone dropped to a knee in the stands and she said yes. I caught it. It’s in here.
Genuinely, thank you to the @blackferns and @usarugby for letting me stand on the grass and do my thing. It’s a privilege to document my home country team, this sport I used to play, especially at this level.

ACT 2/3: The Game
Sacramento brought the noise yesterday. (Plus lightning and thunder)
USA scored first. Like, real quick. Hope Rogers crashed over and for a second the whole stadium was shaking. I was standing on the end field thinking, “Alright, we’ve got a game here.”
Then the Ferns just clicked.
Mererangi Paul grabbed 3 tries. We got to see some new faces get their first cap in the black jersey. By the end, the scoreboard looked comfortable, but the first 50 minutes were a scrap.
This is just a dump of my favorite frames from the match. Action, faces, sweat, and that crazy storm ⛈️ we got right before the game finished.

ACT 1 / 3: Renee Holmes & her 200 Points
I don’t think people realize how hard it is to score 200 points in a Black Ferns jersey.
That’s not just showing up. That’s years of showing out.
Renee Holmes hit that mark yesterday in Sacramento. Bit of drama (in terms of weather) but good rugby. A couple of tries, a penalty kick to finish things off, and a quiet little piece of history tucked into a 48-15 win.
I was lucky enough to be on the sideline for it. Here are some of my favorite shots of her from the match.

“Trauma Bond” and a season that means more than any box score.
Last night vs the Pelicans, I caught something special through my lens—including a few shots where the halo effect over the court. Felt fitting for the people I’ve gotten to document.
Because here’s what I’m really grateful for: sitting down and hearing the stories of the people (players, coaches, staff behind the scenes) for the Kings. Everyone who pours their heart into this building. That access has changed how I see every game.
And yeah, the record isn’t what fans wanted. And the growth of the newcomers, veterans who still lead like every possession matters, these things don’t always show up in the win column. The old saying “there is sunshine after the storm”.
So here’s to documenting through the losses. Through the halo lights. Through the beam. This season has a soul—and I’m just lucky to be holding the camera.

Story time: So there I was—just checking out the Nike Crenshaw installation when I saw my guy @oklai19 in line. Looked quiet. Thought it was the standard Nike Book 2 x Fragment release. Joined him and others for the vibes. Line starts filling in behind us. I'm thinking, 'Well, I'm committed now.' Then the shop window lifts. And I realize exactly why we were there: Devin Booker and the Godfather of Harajuku himself, Hiroshi Fujiwara."
The Nike Book 2 X Fragment “Warning Label” I only found out how limited they were after the drop.
The dopamine release from the unpredictability makes the “hit” feel 10x more rewarding than a planned release. Nike has been making sneaker hunting fun again with the Costco SB Dunks release.
