My mother told me early on, that when I get married and have a kid, my priority would shift away from her. She said it’s how it should be because it’s proof she did a good job as a mother. I never thought how beautiful and heartbreaking that statement is.
38 years ago this was my mom, holding me. She was the center of my world. At what point does a mom accept that her baby won’t ask for her as much? That he won’t depend on her hugs and kisses like he used to? When does that heartbreak become pride that you raised a young boy to pour all his love into his own family?
A job well done is accepting that your child will leave your arms one day, and pour all that love you put into him/her, and share it with family he’ll start on his own.
