I’m just getting back from Kansas where we were shooting my upcoming documentary PAPER MOON Rise, to discover my script for Occam’s Beard is on the nominees list for the Cannes Film Awards. Even as I type this, it doesn’t seem it could be true, but I guess it is. Thank you to the jury for considering my screenplay!

David Ezell (Leonato + Sexton) is a Manhattan-based actor and filmmaker. His first screenplay, Occam’s Beard (2025), won Best Short Screenplay at festivals worldwide. He recently appeared Off-Broadway in Little Women and starred in the premiere of The Interlude of Youth. He directs the forthcoming documentary Paper Moon Rise. @DavidLEzell

Happy birthday to JP Ellison, the main character in my screenplay Occam's Beard! Born on February 14, 1996, JP's 30th birthday is a pivotal moment in my story. The short film takes place on this milestone day, while the feature is about the six months preceding that date. Turning 30 is a big step for most of us, and it has a profound impact on my favourite protagonist.

My production, @camelbackfilms just got the word that our first film, Occam’s Beard, has been selected as a finalist in the script category at the Big Apple Film Festival! The script, which I co-authored with my collaborator Harry Cooke, it is a story that we hope to be able to share with all of you in the near future.
