Yesterday I was bestowed this year’s Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Faculty Award for Distinguished Scholarship or Creative Endeavors.
It’s been a good year for my studio practice. More on that soon.
My gratitude to Department of Visual Arts chair Logan Woodle @loganwoodlemetalsmith for the nomination and seeing value in my creative work. I also want to thank the Deans office @claudia.bornholdt@middletonlover@easton_selby for organizing the awards, the kind words shared yesterday during the ceremony and continued support.

What a great afternoon! Thanks to everyone who joined Professor David Johnson for today’s Brown Bag Lunch featuring Glimmer and Creep.
From Governors Island’s layered history to its shifting present and imagined futures—set beneath the glow of New York City’s light pollution, the conversation sparked fresh perspectives and thoughtful discussion.
The Faculty Brown Bag Lunch Series continues to show how the Department of Visual Arts thrives beyond the classroom—creating space for connection, curiosity, and creative exchange in a relaxed, come-as-you-are environment.
Good food, great company, and inspiring ideas—exactly what these gatherings are all about. Stay tuned for the next one!
This past weekend, #CCU Visual Art’s Photography Professor Dave Johnson took CCU photography students to Atlanta for the Society for Photographic Education Annual Conference 📸
Students experienced art beyond the classroom with a private tour of The Warehouse, attended Jessica Hays’ book release at Fall Line Press, visited the SPE Members Exhibition at SCAD, and participated in inspiring lectures throughout the conference.
The trip wrapped up with a visit to the High Museum of Art, where students viewed exhibitions by Mimi Plumb and Ralph Eugene Meatyard before heading back to Conway.

Join Professor David Johnson for a brown bag lunch as he discusses his new photographic project, Glimmer and Creep. Shot during an 11-week summer residency on Governors Island, the work explores the island’s layered history, its present form, and possible futures, all set against the persistent glow of New York City’s light pollution—Class 9 on the Bortle Scale.
Faculty Brown Bag Lunch Series: A new initiative in the Department of Visual Arts that encourages informal, interdisciplinary connection. These relaxed sessions bring faculty, staff, and students together to share and discuss ongoing creative work.
Lady Billie Bluebonnet came home with us in November. She’s an energetic pup, and this weekend she got experience snow for the first time, it was glorious.
Photo fun during snow days in the South.
Since June, I’ve been in residence on Governors Island, photographing as part of the Institute for Public Architecture’s Summer Fellowship. This unique environment has provided a powerful space for exploring place, time, and the city’s edge.
The Patron Print Program helps fund:
– Medium-format film and lab processing
– Proofing materials and final exhibition prints
– Research and documentation related to the work
Your support allows me to complete this final month and prepare for an August exhibition. The goal is to sell 13 prints this week.
More information and purchase options are available via the link in bio.

I’m grateful to those who have pre-ordered Patron Prints during this cycle; your support has gone toward two projects. For those new to the Patron Print Program, it works much like a Kickstarter: this round supports my residency on Governors Island, part of the Institute for Public Architecture’s 2025 Summer Fellowship.
Each Patron Print is an 11×17” archival pigment print, part of a limited edition, and ships in a custom folio. Your pre-purchase directly supports the continuation of two photographic projects developed during this residency.
My goal is to sell 13 prints this week to cover remaining production, material, and exhibition costs for the final month on the island.
For full details and to purchase, please visit the link in bio. Thank you for your support.

This Saturday on #governorsisland come to @the_iparch and visit with all the IPA summer fellows.
It is a great opportunity to learn about our in progress creative and architectural research. There is plenty of activities around the island before and after the IPA open [block] house to make it a full day.
I’ll be sharing work from two projects.
Reaching the halfway point of my Fellowship with @the_iparch on #governorsisland
So I thought I’d give a small image dump of moments around the island and a seek peek of a new project about the island (last image).
Living on governors island very unique way to experience New York City. Residencies are great opportunities spend time to focus, fall in love with your craft again and get reminded why I started this journey. So glad to share space, ideas, and meals with a great cohort of fellows.
More to come, but if you would like to help support this endeavor please consider pre-purchasing a Patron print.
This Saturday the Institute for Public Architecture will host an open house for the summer residents at the block house on Governors Island. This will be the first of three public facing events this summer. I’ll present work in progress for two different projects.
If you’re in New York and can’t make this Saturday it let me know, I’d love a conversation and tour any time you can come out to the island.
If you’re interested in helping support this creative endeavor, please consider investing in my patron print program.

On Friday, Roxie moved on…
A staggering loss, Roxie was Sara’s ride-or-die and shadow for 14 years and 4 months.
I’m so thankful Sara brought Roxie into my life; she opened my heart, provided comfort, warmth, and plenty of laughs… she was the kind of doggo I hope every family gets to experience.
