Exactly three years ago, I met a group of young refugees and asylum seekers from Sudan and South Sudan, struggling to survive on the streets of Morocco.
They called themselves "Jungo" - A word and name I had never heard of at the time; a name traditionally given to seasonal agricultural workers from Sudan, now adopted by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants on the road.
Little did I know that this chance encounter, and this word "Jungo" .... would change the trajectory of my life, in ways I could never have imagined.

APPRECIATION POST
One year ago, I launched a crowdfunding campaign linked to "This Jungo Life", with an initial goal to raise €1,800 (AUD$3,000) — enough to cover the rent of a small house for one year, helping a group of young Sudanese refugees get off the streets in Morocco.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of people around the world — including many of you here — we’ve now raised almost €21,000 (AUD $34,000). More than ELEVEN TIMES the original target!
This has allowed us to expand the project far beyond what I imagined — supporting not only young men, but also families, women, and children, many of whom have recently arrived in Morocco after fleeing the ongoing war in Sudan.
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this in any way over the past year. Your support means so much to me. And while this has been one of the most challenging projects of my life, it’s also been the most meaningful.
Much love, David ❤️
🥳🎉TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS🎈🎁
Raised by the wonderful people that came to our screening of ‘This Jungo Life’ at the University of Melbourne.
Every single cent goes to support refugees and asylum seekers on the streets of Morocco, primarily from Sudan and South Sudan.
We are beyond grateful to all of our guests, director David Fedele, assistant director Abubakr, and the Jungo of Rabat.
It was an honour and a privilege to work with

I am still buzzing following a very special, unique and moving screening of "This Jungo Life" on Friday night in Melbourne!
There were between 140-150 people in attendance — possibly the largest audience the film has had in the past two years of screenings around the world — it was incredibly meaningful to share it in my home town, with such an engaged and supportive audience.
The night was also run as a fundraiser, with every cent from ticket sales, donations, and an art auction going toward supporting Sudanese and other refugees in Morocco. We will share the final amount raised soon, but we can already say we far exceeded our initial goal, which makes the impact of the night even more powerful!
The energy, love and support in the room was incredible - and we were also joined via video call by my Sudanese filmmaking brother Abubakr Ali— the main protagonist of the film — which brought the story even closer to the audience in a very direct way.
A huge and heartfelt thank you to Sawt Al-Sudan, Ahal Al-Sudan, Red Sea Media, and Law Students for Refugees for being such incredible hosts and collaborators, and to all the volunteers, supporters, and artists (including @bwader.art.studio.ae ) who so generously contributed to the evening. @sawtalsudan.au@ahal.alsudan@redseamediamelbourne@lawstudents4refugees
Still feeling the energy, still feeling the love. x
