Hi, I'm David Bizzaro. Yes, that is my real name. I am primarily a father, Husband, puppeteer, clothing designer, actor, and professional cookie man. Please send cookies. 🍪
I've been working in TV and film since I was sixteen. I started as a camera operator and editor, and over the past twenty-five years, I've worked on so many sides of production and post-production, from making music videos and documentaries for The Flaming Lips, building puppets and props for Sesame Street, and performing Dr. Teeth's Dad on The Muppets Mayhem. I've worn lots of hats, learned so much from so many brilliant people, and been able to live an extraordinary life thus far.
My favorite thing is making my son giggle, and my wife laugh until she has to pee. Throughout my life, the best moments have been making others laugh. My aunt tells a story about how when I was a toddler, maybe two or three years old, I told jokes in the back of her car, and when she tried to tell a joke, I said, "Auntie, leave the jokes to me. I'm the funny man." Building puppets and garments is fun, but being funny is the golden ticket.
I hope my creations and videos bring some laughter and joy in to your life. If not, it wasn't me who posted that. It was some other guy with a made-up last name. 🤪❤️

In the new @disneyplus series The Muppets Mayhem, I guest star alongside the incredible Stephanie D'Abruzzo as Gerald Teeth Sr., Dr. Teeth's father. Working on The Muppets Mayhem was incredible. Everyone was so kind and supportive. In between takes, @kimmygatewood would laugh at all my bad jokes. I knew they were terrible, but because she laughed, I felt like maybe I could pull off being Gerald. 😜

I made Ethan Hawke a jacket!
I’ve been a fan of @ethanhawke since I was a kid. The first film I saw him in was Explorers. Watching him act alongside that weird green alien cracked something open in my brain. I remember thinking, “Maybe I could do something like that one day.”
Ever since then, his work has been a huge source of inspiration for me as both an actor and puppeteer. So getting to make this jacket for him was surreal.
The jacket is based on a 1940s Levi’s Type I T-Back and made from a rare 16.5oz denim from Okayama. The fabric has this TV-static texture that reminded me of watching Explorers on VHS as a kid. I hand-set the brass rivets, and the back patch was screen-printed by the amazing folks at @friendship.print.guild
Huge thank you to @sterlinharjo for helping set this up. I honestly thought I’d just hand the jacket off to someone else, so getting to meet Ethan and give it to him myself was incredibly special.
Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with making things in the first place. ❤️❤️
I performed on The Muppet Show!
I did a lot of background work, but my favorite thing I did was have a featherless chicken discover that its own arm is delicious. Something I was taught by my Muppet mentors is that when you are playing in the background, find ways to upstage quietly. It's what all the original muppet performers did. So that's what I do. I try to contrast subtly, when appropriate.
Performing on the show was a dream come true. A dream that, honestly, I didn't know I had. Since I started in puppetry, I was told not to try for The Muppets, it'll never happen. So I didn't. I didn't try to impersonate muppet characters'voices, perform like them, or build any of them. However, there was always a small warm light in the back of my mind that would say, "But wouldn't it be amazing to play with the Muppets?" I never entertained the idea, but I did let it keep burning.
When the invite came to do The Muppet Show, I was shocked but also suddenly focused. Ready to do whatever they needed me to do to help make the show great. When I was there, it was a family reunion. I saw old friends, made new ones, and was surrounded by so much creative intention. At one point, @bradleyfreemanjr and I were sitting in the theater audience and watched Kermit do his opening of the show through the sign. Life is a wild journey.

I met a celebrity at @okpoptulsa today!
I swung by OK POP for a meeting today, and I got to meet a gremlin that was used in the first Gremlins film! So cool to see this puppet in person. Why puppet and not creature? I don't believe there is a difference.
I'm thrilled that OKPOP has reached its funding goal, so you'll all be able to see this amazing puppet on display in the future!

As I begin my 43rd ride through the cosmos, I'm reflecting on the last year. I did a lot! I went to Disneyland with friends. A friend of mine, who is a Rabbi, said to me, "You are a fantastically unusual man." Which is now my slogan. I did some pop-ups with my brand @bzro_clothing hemming pants with a chain-stitching machine from the late 1950s. I performed a puppet show at my son's day school, where my character performed magic. It was amazing and I'm excited to do it again. My son is getting older, stronger, and smarter! He is so silly, and I love him dearly. I performed on THE MUPPET SHOW!! It was emotional, fun, and full of joy, and I will cherish the memory forever. My wife and I are growing as individuals and as a couple. I'm so happy we found each other, and she continues to put up with my usual self.
What will this 43rd year hold for me?! Will I do more puppets? Will I learn a new skill I never thought I would try? Will I start a cult based on joy and chocolate chip cookies?! Who knows! What I do know is that I am excited for the journey. Let's do this and grow together.
