David Howe @david_howe_studio , founder of 601Artspace, saw Open Group's 𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝑨𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒆 𝑰𝑰 at the Polish Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2024 and immediately wanted to bring it to New York. Listen to David sharing the backstory of putting together the exhibition at 601 and his own experience with the participatory element of the installation.

I thought this Ukrainian piece in the form of a karaoke bar was one of the highlights of last year’s Biennale. I was really surprised that nobody was planning to bring it to NY, so we put together a team at 601Artspace to fill the gap. Please come see it!
601Artspace brings to NY the 2024 Polish Pavilion from the Venice Biennale - a project from the Ukrainian collective OPEN GROUP. The work features survivors imitating the sounds of the war in Ukraine, from gunfire and drones to ambulances and sirens. Microphones are set up karaoke-style to allow viewers to repeat those sounds if they wish, viscerally connecting the public to the witnesses and the war.
Opening Thursday, May 8 from 6-8pm:

I’m excited to announce the 8th painting in the Beloved Leader Series, adapted from Benjamin West’s “Penn’s Treaty with the Indians”, completed in 1772. West depicted William Penn leading a delegation of Quakers and merchants, entering into the Treaty of Shackamaxon with a chief of the Lenape Turtle Clan, near the village of Shackamaxon (present day Philadelphia). In contrast to the original, our rendition shows the Beloved Leader (Mark Z) at the head of a group of Meta board members and executives. They are completing a treaty with various political leaders and tech CEOs of present day India, under a massive banyan tree in a park near Bengalaru.
