Junior Delgado and Augustus Pablo shared a profound, long-term partnership that spanned over two decades, characterized by a deep personal friendship that produced some of Junior Delgado’s most iconic works. 1978 saw Pablo produce two masterpieces, ‘Away With Your Fussing And Fighting’ and ‘Black Man’s Heart Cries Out, both records with flawless vocal deliveries from Junior. Reuniting again during the mid 80’s, their most fruitful partnership produced Delgados landmark album Raggamuffin Year released in 1986 for Island Records, along with the successful follow-up album One Step More, later touring together, with their 1986 live shows at London’s Astoria Theatre being regarded as a pinnacle of their partnership. 📸 - @david.corio . . . #officialjuniordelgado #augustuspablo #rockersinternational #incrediblemusic

Afrika Bambaataa one of the pioneers of Hip Hop (17 April 1957 to 9 April 2026). Photos taken in London at Celluloid Records and at Camden Palace with Grandmixer DST in 1983, backstage at Wembley Arena for the UK Fresh Show in 1986 and at The Venue in 1982 for The New York City Rap Tour - the first Hip Hop package that brought live performance, dj’s graffiti artists, break dancing and double dutch skippers to Europe. However his legacy is made complex with many allegations of child abuse. A lawsuit brought by an anonymous plaintiff accused him of sexually abusing him for 4 years from the age of 12. The judge ruled in the plaintiff’s favour after Bambaataa didn’t show up. There were more than a dozen accusations in recent years. David Corio’s image of James Brown featured in the new issue of Square Mile. “‘The Godfather of Soul’, ‘The Hardest Working Man in Show Business’ and ‘Mr Dynamite’, James Brown certainly lived up to his many nicknames when I saw him for the first time at Hammersmith Odeon in 1985. He was 52 at the time, and although no longer executing the splits, was still full of energy, spinning and seamlessly flowing from one funk hit through to the to the next in a tight two-hour set. I noticed that near the end of every third song he made a point of leaping into the air, and after a few unsuccessful attempts, I managed to capture him in full flight. There are several shots that I’m happy with from that night, but this is my favourite as it shows both his boundless energy and enormous stage presence in a single image. The shot has been published in numerous books and was used for the cover of ‘Doing the James Brown – In the Footsteps of the Godfather of Funk’ compilation album. It was also the cover of NME’s tribute to James Brown and was chosen as one of the top era-defining music photos by The Guardian in 2024.” David Corio on James Brown. David Corio’s limited edition prints are available @printmatters.uk with 20% of each sale donated to Rethink Mental Illness. 📷 James Brown performing live at Hammersmith Odeon in 1985 @david.corio @printmatters.uk @squaremile #davidcorio #jamesbrown #photooftheday #printmatters #photography
