The 2nd Annual Key West
@bearandburtonsinvitational was a dream.
We were honored to even be invited last year, and were proud of our showing, because we came close. We decided to run it back as a team of
@davewcomedy @bbqdadjody &
@roybelly .
The competition consists of points earned for a fishing tournament, a lobster diving tournament, & a traditional cook day turning in proteins of
@rcranchtx Steak, Turkey, TriTip, & Ribs. Shout out to Cap’n
@gabenyblad for helping us crush the boat days (inc a giant Permit, Tarpon, Shark, & 16 keepers on lobster day). Another shout out to
@jessicasmetana of the
@lebatardshow for joining us on cook day.
Along the way there was a sandbar Burger competition, a Belly Flop contest, & a whole lot of camaraderie amongst many of the biggest names & personalities in BBQ that had come to compete & be a part of something special. Many of them came out to support Dave at the comedy club each night.
A lot of great teams were called as individual winners of different categories, and we felt our chances slipping away as ours wasn’t. But apparently our little team had amassed enough overall points to be crowned GRAND CHAMPION of the overall weekend. Surreal.
It felt great to have our friends, peers, & idols happy for us. It’s an absolute TEAM effort, but MVP goes to Jody Flanagan. If you didn’t already know, this guy can flat out cook & is the ultimate team player no matter what we are doing.
The greatest part is being part of an amazing BBQ community that came together to raise a lot of money for
