Traveling around the country this spring to meet readers who believe in TRANSPLANTS as much as I do has meant everything to me as a debut author. And we’re not done quite yet! I’m thrilled to announce the Transplants 2025 Fall Book Tour, coming to thirteen more cities before the end of the year!
I’ll be in conversation with some incredible writers, including @abipollokoff@erins_sweater@lauralouiseda@xhennyfromtheblock@mattk1885@jon.michaud@belinda.huijuan.tang@queensgospel@lauramaylene@legroff@yimingwrites@mirtaojito@123dianasaurusx@paradeofcats . Full details and links to RSVP at the link in bio.
I’m grateful to all the booksellers and institutions who have welcomed me into their spaces, to every friend who pitched an interview or review, to every podcaster who invited me to share my story. And to you for getting this little book out into the world. Thank you, as ever, for all your support along the way, and for the journey ahead.
🚨Cover reveal alert!🚨 “Transplants” by Daniel Tam-Claiborne is coming from Regalo Press on May 13, 2025. Find out more about the book and the creation of its cover, designed by Elisha Zepeda, at the 💡link in our bio💡
For those who’ve been in the trenches with me over the last two years, you know I don’t make this announcement lightly.
So often, we only ever hear one kind of narrative: the contentious auctions, the 7-figure deals, the overnight sensations. But the reality for most writers is far less glamorous.
Writing is one of the few pursuits where the effort you put in has almost no bearing on your odds of success. Tastes are subjective, the industry is fickle, and there is more content vying for our attention now than ever before. Of the hundreds of thousands of books that are published every year, only the tiniest fraction get any meaningful exposure, and hundreds of thousands more never see the light of day.
This process has taken more of a toll on me than I like to admit. It’s threatened to destroy my love of writing. It’s shaken my conviction as a human. It’s been rife with heartache and disillusionment and self-recrimination of all stripes.
But it also isn’t unique. So many writers never get the chance to manifest their work in the world. Despite however many accolades we accrue, there will always be another box to check, a new pang of envy, a higher mountain to climb.
I share this news because I feel fortunate to be on the other side, but also because I hope it provides a small solace to others who are going through the process. I know that it just as easily may never have happened. At the end of the day, being a writer means not being wedded to any particular outcome. It means reminding ourselves—and finding consolation—in why it is we write to begin with.
Today, I feel grateful that this little novel will have its own fleeting moment in the world. I’m indebted to @mclewis11 , @cmluibl , the whole team at @regalo_press , and everyone who has ever believed in me and my work. Thank you for making sure that, despite what feel like overwhelming odds, I never gave up hope.
In this Episode 337 clip, @datclaiborne discusses seeds for his award-winning book, and he describes how a 2009 trip to China was a catalyst for ideas of identity as unfolding in Transplants.
The conversation was a great one, and Pete is even more grateful to Daniel for being so astute and generous with his thoughts at 3:30am or so, Shanghai time!

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
At the 2025 Roots & Wings Youth Symposium, panelists shared honest stories about changing paths, taking risks, and finding direction over time. Our speakers followed their interests into fulfilling careers in sports analytics, as a chef and restaurateur, and as an author and nonprofit community leader.
The conversation is a reminder that success isn’t always linear and that support, curiosity, and self-advocacy can shape your journey.

An episode of the CLIMATE ARTISTS documentary series I helped produce in partnership with @allartstv and @serica.initiative won a New York Emmy Award this past October! 🏆 It profiles SF-based ceramic sculptor, Courtney Mattison, who visualizes climate change through the fragile beauty of coral reefs.
Thank you @courtneycoral for allowing us to share your story and your extraordinary talent and huge gratitude to @erinlynmcintyre , @ruggchelsea , @bycindyrodriguez , @shant_cant , and the entire production team! Stream the episode—and the entire five-part series—at the link in bio.
Did you know Serica started in 2018 with 3 original believers in a mission of belonging and solidarity?! For the 3rd day of Serica, we introduce our original staff - Anla Cheng, Josephine Lau, and Daniel Tam-Claiborne @datclaiborne !
They worked hard to bring you our beloved documentaries of "be/longing: Asian Americans Now", "Between Black & White: Asian Americans Speak Out", and the "Scientists in The Crosshairs".
They also hosted our first few Serica Galas, honoring the likes of David & Susan Rockefeller, George Takei, Jennifer Wu, and Yong Zhao in wonderful soirees - the first one was actually Virtual in 2021 due to the lockdowns, but wine was enjoyed nevertheless!
They also carefully curated several webinars highlighting #AAPI filmmaking to build solidarity at a time when racial tensions were high.
You can learn more about their work at our website /
