As the people of Iran continue fighting for freedom, we are centering Iranian artists and their contributions to Toronto’s music scene. This year’s Nowruz does not feel celebratory for many of us, and we don’t claim to have clear answers about how to move forward.
What we do know is that remaining silent does not feel right. Some of us need a space to come together. To hold one another, grieve, resist, and heal. Through this gathering, we aim to amplify Iranian voices and create that space with care. Coinciding with the Spring Equinox, this night sits between renewal, remembrance, and gathering.
Our Nowruz lineup showcases Toronto’s vibrant Persian leftfield electronic music scene, alongside visiting artists from Detroit and Paris. United by the Iranian diaspora, Salar Ansari, Cinna Peyghamy and Dastgâmachine bring distinctive sounds and classical instrumentation to the world of dub, techno, and musique concrète.
